Following the retirement of Jim Murphy at the end of November after a 32 year-run with the station, his co-hosts Katie Schurk and Nick Vitrano have decided to leave the station.
Each shared identical statements writing, “November 28th was an incredibly difficult and emotional day. Today may prove even more difficult. That being said, with the support of our families , Nick and I have made the decision to leave WIXX. Before anything further, most importantly, we would like to say thank you. Thank you for being a supportive community of listeners who welcomed us into your lives. It’s truly been an honor, and we are grateful for that privilege. Thank you to Midwest Communications for giving us the opportunity to do what we love for a living, with some of our very best friends. As for the future, Nick and I want to take time away to process this life altering decision. We are sure that you have questions, but we would appreciate you respecting our privacy while we navigate our futures. We love and appreciate you all.”
Vitrano began his tenure with teh company as co-host and producer of the “Maino and Nick Show” on Sports 1440 WNFL from 1999 to 2003. He continued hosting that show until 2014 adding Program Director duties at WNFL from 2008 until joining the WIXX morning show in January 2013. Schurk began her career at WIXX as an intern before being promoted to morning co-host in 2005.
The departures from WIXX continue a morning show shakeup in the market following Murphy’s retirement that saw Woodward Radio CHR “95.9 Kiss-FM” WKSZ cut ties with morning hosts Jake Kelly and Tanner Jay last month and bring in longtime former WIXX host Otis Day to replace them.
