K107FM in Kirkcaldy has launched a new fundraising endeavour with the launch of the ‘Ten For Ten Challenge’.
The station celebrated 10 years of broadcasting this year, was awarded a five year licence renewal, and gained further recognition with nominations in the Fife Business Awards and forthcoming Community Radio Awards.
The ‘Ten For Ten Challenge’ will see volunteers embarking in a series of activities from now until the end of the year. These will see K107FM members engaging with local businesses and the community, and for the first time the station utilising a ‘Text to donate’ system.
Each challenge, or the station can be supported with a £10 donation by texting “Radio” to 70580.
Today, (Thursday 24th October), station member Kenny Armour will be setting off on the first challenge as he attempts to walk the full 116 miles of the Fife Coastal Path.
He said: “I am embarking on this challenge which originally was purely to test myself and how far I had come in my recovery journey, Andysmanclub has played a huge part in my recovery so let’s shout about them. But I also know how much work goes on behind the scenes at K107fm so it was a no brainer to do this walk to raise money for the station as well. It’s going to be a challenge both mentally and physically but with thesupport of donations coming in it make it all worthwhile.”
A station spokeperson said: “Licence costs just to broadcast cost us around £4000 a year, and that is before any other core costs. Given the signifance of 10 years of broadcasting, we’re continuing to look at new ways to sustain this service and allow us to do more within our community.
“The Ten For Ten Challenge encourages our team to do something different, and each £10 donation would really help the station. Kenny is launching the campaign with a huge personal challenge, and it’s great he can do so alongside his role with Andy’s Man Club and highlight what they do across our area and beyond.
“Of course, we also remain as a cost effective marketing solution for local businesses to work with us, and there are even more ways to get involved over the festive period.”
