July 2023 (6/22 – 7/18) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 1: Rock Record Falls In New York

Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

New York

iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW retains its lead 7.6 to 7.7. iHeart’s Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ continues its upward trend 6.0 – 6.4 – 6.8 – 7.1 for what Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes is not just an all-time record high for the station, but also the highest share for any Rock station in New York history for the second straight month. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM is up 5.9 to 6.1. iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ rises 5.2 to 5.4. MediaCo Adult R&B 107.5 WBLS dips 5.5 to 5.1.

Audacy News 1010 WINS/92.3 WINS-FM rises 4.3 to 4.9. Classical 105.9 WQXR trends up 1.6 – 1.9 – 2.2. Public News/Talk 820 WNYC is up 0.8 to 1.5.

Good Karma Sports “98.7 ESPN” WEPN-FM trends down 1.4 – 1.1 – 0.8.

Los Angeles

K-Earth 101 101.1 KRTH Los Angeles KEarthAudacy Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH expands its lead up 5.9 to 6.8, while sister Rhythmic AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV is up to second 4.8 to 5.5 for what Huff notes is its best showing since October 2020. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” holds steady at a 5.2 share, while sister AC 103.5 KOST is down 5.2 to 4.9. iHeart News/Talk 640 KFI dips 4.3 to 4.2.

Univision Spanish Adult Hits “Recuerdo 103.9/98.3” KRCD/KRCV trends up 2.8 – 3.3 – 4.1. Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters Country “Go Country 105” KKGO trends up 1.6 – 1.7 – 2.3.

Estrella Media Regional Mexican “Que Buena 105.5/94.3” KBUE/KBUA/KEBN slides 2.7 – 2.2 – 1.4.

93.1 WXRT Chicago Terri HemmertiHeartMedia Soft AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT holds its lead down 7.2 to 7.0. Hubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV slides 6.8 to 6.1. Audacy AAA 93.1 WXRT trends up 4.1 – 4.6 – 5.7. Audacy News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS is up 4.6 to 5.0, while sister Country “US 99” WUSN holds at a 4.1 share.

SBS Regional Mexican “La Ley 107.9” WLEY trends up 1.6 – 1.9 – 2.1. Hubbard 90s/2000s Hits “The New 100.3” WSHE slides 2.2 – 2.0 – 1.6.

The return of Alternative “Live 105” KITS pays off as the Audacy station rises 2.2 – 3.1 – 3.6 in its first full monthly following its return, which Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes sets a new record high for the frequency overpassing the 3.5 share it had in 1995.

iHeartMedia Classic Hits “103.7 80s+” KOSF takes advantage of the demise of “105.3 Dave-FM” to trend up 2.4 – 3.0 – 3.9.

Bonneville CHR “99.7 Now” KMVQ falls 4.2 to 3.2. Cumulus Classic Rock “107.7 The Bone” KSAN rises 2.1 – 2.5 – 2.7.

Dallas/Fort Worth

98.7 The Spot KLUV KLove DallasIn its first full monthly following its rebrand as “98.7 The Spot” KSPF, Audacy’s Classic Hits station takes the top spot in Dallas/Fort Worth 5.4 to 5.3.

Cumulus Sports “The Ticket” 1310 KTCK/96.7 KTCK-FM is down 5.1 to 4.7. Cumulus’ “New Country 96.3” KSCS is third 4.7 to 4.5. iHeartMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS moves 4.4 to 4.3. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 94.1” KLNO (4.1 to 4.2) and Cumulus Classic Country “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX (4.8 to 4.2) tie for fifth.

Salem Christian AC 94.9 KLTY trends up 3.3 – 3.5 – 4.0. Cumulus News/Talk 820 WBAP is up 3.3 – 3.7 – 3.9. Audacy Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK rises 3.0 to 3.8. Public News/Talk 90.1 KERA-FM trends up 1.9 – 2.3 – 2.7.

Following its rebrand as “Mix 102.9” iHeartMedia Hot AC KDMX dips 2.8 to 2.5.

Houston/Galveston

As notable, the rise ends the 28 consecutive monthly streak atop the market for iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA as it falls 8.9 to 6.9. Audacy Variety Hits “95.7 The Spot” KKHH is off 6.5 – 5.9 – 5.6. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ (5.2 to 5.4) and Hope Media Group Christian AC 89.3 KSBJ (4.9 to 5.4) tie for fifth.

Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 102.9” KLTN slips 5.5 to 4.9. Audacy Country “100.3 The Bull” KILT-FM falls 4.6 to 3.6. Public News/Talk 88.7 KUHF-FM trends down 2.7 – 2.3 – 1.8.

Estrella Media Regional Mexican “La Raza 98.5/101.7” KTJM/KNTE rises 1.9 – 2.3 – 2.5. Hope Media Group Spanish Christian “Vida Unida” 91.7 KHVU trends up 0.9 – 1.1 – 1.6.

97.1 The River WSRVCox continues its stranglehold on the lead in Atlanta. Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV is off 10.4 to 9.6, but retains a nearly 3 share point lead over Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ/WUMJ as it rises 6.5 to 6.8. Cox Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR (6.9 to 6.5) and News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB (holding at 6.5) tie for third, and are followed by Cox AC “B98.5” WSB-FM down 5.6 to 5.3.

Public News/Talk 90.1 WABE-FM rises 2.7 to 3.5. Dickey Broadcasting Sports “680/93.7 The Fan” WCNN rises 2.3 – 2.8 – 3.3 as the Braves run away with the National League lead.

Radio One Hip Hop “Hot 107.9” WHTA slides 4.1 – 3.0 – 2.7, while Core Communicators Hip Hop “Streetz 94.5” 1420 WWSZ trends up 1.7 – 1.9 – 2.4.

Philadelphia

Power 99 98.9 WUSL PhiladelphiaBeasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK comes down from its record high but retains a commanding lead 10.6 to 9.8. iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM rises 7.8 to 8.1. Beasley Rock 93.3 WMMR holds at a 6.3 share. Audacy News 1060 KYW/103.9 WPHI rises 5.3 to 5.6. Beasley Country 92.5 WXTU falls 6.9 – 6.6 – 5.5 to tie for fifth with Audacy Classic Hits “Big 98.1” WOGL (5.7 to 5.5).

Audacy Sports 94.1 WIP rises 3.8 to 4.6 (with its stream falling 2.0 – 0.8 – 0.1).

iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Power 99” WUSL trends up 2.9 – 3.0 – 3.7. Despite now being the only CHR in town, iHeart’s “Q102” WIOQ slides 3.1 – 2.6 – 2.4. Audacy’s recently revamped Hot AC “The New 96.5” WTDY-FM holds at a 2.8 share.

Connoisseur Media Hot AC 97.5 WALK is up 4.0 to 4.2.

Audacy Sports 660 WFAN/101.9 WFAN-FM is down 4.4 to 3.4. Cox CHR 106.1 WBLI drops 3.9 to 3.1. Red Apple Media Conservative Talk 770 WABC slides 3.2 – 2.5 – 1.9.
