July 2021 (6/24 – 7/21) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 2: Records Shattered At WROR, WFEZ & KIRO-FM

Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.

Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP Washington rises 7.7 to 8.8 to reclaim the market lead. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR slips from its record high of 9.0 last month to a 7.9. Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU trends down 9.5 – 7.9 – 7.5. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ rises 6.5 to 7.0. iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH rises 6.0 to 6.6.

iHeartMedia Alternative “DC 101” WWDC trends up 5.1 – 5.2 – 5.7, while sister CHR “Hot 99.5” WIHT moves up 2.9 – 3.2 – 4.2. Also trending up are Radio One’s duo of Gospel “Praise 104.1” WPRS 2.2 to 2.9 and Hip Hop 93.9 WKYS 1.9 – 2.0 – 2.8. Moving downward in Washington are Classical 90.9 WETA 4.5 to 3.9 and iHeartMedia Country 98.7 WMZQ 4.3 to 3.4.

Beasley Media Classic Hits 105.7 WROR takes a three share lead in Boston as it surges up 7.6 – 8.2 – 9.1. Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes that it is the largest share in the history of the 105.7 frequency in Boston. Beasley’s Country 102.5 WKLB trends up to a second place tie 5.1 – 5.7 – 6.1, while iHeartMedia CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM is on a 7.7 – 7.3 – 6.1 downswing. iHeartMedia’s duo of Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX (6.3 to 6.0) and News 1030 WBZ (5.7 to 5.9) round out the top five.

iHeartMedia’s recently launched Spanish CHR “Rumba 97.7” WZRM jumps up 1.2 to 2.1. Trending downward in Boston are Audacy’s trio of AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX (5.7 – 5.3 – 4.6), Hot AC “Mix 104.1” WWBX (3.1 to 2.4) and Variety Hits “Big 103.3” WBGB (3.0 to 2.0).

Cox Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ Miami surges up 7.9 to 9.6. Huff notes that not only is that a record for the 93.1 frequency in Miami it is also the largest for any station in the market since February 2013. Cox Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT places second up 7.5 to 7.6. Audacy AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF trends up 6.2 – 7.1 – 7.3. SBS Spanish Oldies “Zeta 92” WCMQ is fourth down 5.8 to 5.4. Univision AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR slips down 5.3 – 5.1 – 4.7 for fifth.

Trending downward in Miami are iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Big 105.9” WBGG-FM (4.8 to 3.7), Cox CHR “Hits 97.3” WFLC (2.9 – 2.3 – 1.9) and SBS Spanish Rhythmic “Ritmo 95.7” WRMA (2.4 – 1.8).

Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM Seattle is the third frequency record setter today as it rises 5.9 to 7.8. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK surges up to second 4.5 – 5.5 – 6.8. Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW holds at a 6.5 but falls from first to third. Sinclair News 1000 KOMO/97.7 KOMO-FM loses its share of first to fall to fourth 6.5 to 6.3. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “95.7 The Jet” KJR-FM trends up 4.4 – 4.7 – 5.3.

On the downswing in Seattle are Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM (6.0 – 5.3 – 4.2), Classical 98.1 KING-FM (3.2 – 2.0) and Conservative Talk “770 The Truth” KTTH (2.4 – 1.8 – 1.6).

While iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ holds at a 6.6 share to continue to lead Phoenix, the NBA Finals run of the Suns boosts Bonneville Sports “Arizona Sports 98.7” KMVP-FM up 2.6 – 4.7 – 6.1. iHeartMedia Country 102.5 KNIX places third 6.0 to 5.7. Audacy Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL-FM rebounds up 3.9 to 5.4. Hubbard Rock 97.9 KUPD rises to fifth 4.5 to 4.7.

Hurt the most by KMVP’s gains appear to be Hubbard’s duo of Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX (5.6 – 4.7 – 4.1) and Alternative “Alt AZ 93.3” KDKB (2.9 – 2.3 – 1.7).

Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX rises 6.9 to 7.1 to continue to lead Detroit. Audacy Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC slips 6.4 to 6.2. Three stations tie for third with Audacy News 950 WWJ jumping 4.9 to 5.8 and both Audacy Sports “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM and Beasley Rock 101.1 WRIF both rising 5.5 to 5.8.

Cumulus Hot AC 96.3 WDVD trends up 4.0 – 4.4 – 4.6.

iHeartMedia Classic Hits “Kool 108” KQQL takes the lead in Minneapolis with a slight 8.0 to 8.1 gain. Hubbard Hot AC “KS 95” KSTP-FM (8.1 – 7.9) falls into a second place tie with Christian AC 98.5 KTIS-FM (steady at 7.9). Public News/Talk 91.1 KNOW-FM is fourth 5.9 to 6.2. iHeartMedia Country “K102” KEEY rebounds 5.4 to 6.0 for fifth.

AAA “89.3 The Current” KCMP trends up 3.4 – 4.1 – 4.5, while Cumulus Rock “93X” KXXR trends down 5.2 – 4.6 – 4.2.

Audacy Classic Hits “98.1 Sunny-FM” KXSN holds onto its San Diego lead despite trending down 7.0 – 6.7 – 6.3. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 101.5 KGB-FM places second 5.5 – 5.8 – 6.0 with what Huff notes is its largest share since Spring 1991. iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 93.3” KHTS-FM rises to a third place tie 4.6 to 5.2 to match Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 106.5” KLNV (5.3 to 5.2). LM San Diego Rhythmic AC “Magic 92.5” XHRM places fifth down 5.2 to 5.1.

LM San Diego CHR “Z90.3” XHTZ trends up 2.9 – 3.6 – 4.0 and Audacy Alternative “Alt 94.9” KBZT rises 1.7 to 2.4. On the downward trend are iHeartMedia News/Talk 600 KOGO (5.7 – 4.9 – 4.5), Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS (5.0 – 4.7 – 4.4), and iHeartMedia’s “Rock 105.3” KIOZ (4.1 to 3.3).

There’s a tie atop the Tampa market as Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy FM” WCIE rises 6.4 to 6.6, while Cox Soft AC 105.5 WDUV drops 8.0 to 6.6. Cox Classic Rock “107.3 The Eagle” WXGL rises 5.6 to 6.0. Beasley Classic Hits “Q105” WRBQ rebounds 4.5 to 5.6. iHeartMedia AC “Mix 100.7” WMTX places fifth down 5.0 to 4.8.

Beasley Spanish CHR “Maxima 92.5” WYUU jumps up 3.0 to 3.9. Both Country stations slip as iHeartMedia’s “US 103.5” WFUX falls 4.1 to 3.3 and Beasley’s 99.5 WQYK trends down 3.9 – 3.4 – 3.1, which Huff notes is its lowest since 1977. iHeartMedia News/Talk 970 WFLA tumbles down 4.0 – 3.4 – 2.6.

Bonneville Country 98.5 KYGO remains on top of Denver down 7.1 to 6.7. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “103.5 The Fox” KRFX rises 6.2 to 6.4 which Huff notes is its highest share since 1998. Bonneville AC 101.1 KOSI rises 5.2 to 5.7. Audacy Classic Rock “99.5 The Mountain” KQMT moves up 4.8 to 4.9. Public News/Talk 90.1 KCFR places fifth up 4.6 to 4.8.

With its stunt and relaunch taking place towards the end of the monthly, iHeartMedia CHR “Hits 95.7” KPTT inches up 2.1 to 2.3.

Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM remains on top in Baltimore although it drops 10.0 to 8.6. iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC rises 6.4 to 6.8. Radio One Hip Hop “92Q” WERQ drops 6.0 to 5.5. Audacy AC “Today’s 101.9” WLIF slips 5.6 to 5.3 and iHeartMedia Variety Hits “102.7 Jack-FM” WQSR nudges up 5.1 to 5.2.

iHeartMedia CHR “Z104.3” WZFT trends up 3.2 – 3.5 – 3.8. Jazz 88.9 WEAA moves up 1.2 – 1.6 – 1.9.

Hubbard Classic Rock 94.7 KSHE continues its dominance of St. Louis moving 13.1 to 12.8. Gateway Creative Broadcasting Christian AC “99.1 Joy-FM” KLJY surges up to second 4.9 – 6.3 – 7.7. Hubbard Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH slips to third down 7.5 to 7.1. Audacy AC 102.5 KEZK trends up 5.7 – 6.3 – 6.5, while iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU falls to a fourth place tie down 7.5 to 6.5.

Since setting its all-time record high in May, Hubbard Rock/Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT slips downward 8.7 – 7.7 – 6.2. iHeartMedia Country “93.7 The Bull” KSD jumps up 4.2 to 5.2.
