Joe Gassmann Resigns From Free Beer & Hot Wings Show

Free Beer Hot Wings WGRD Kelly CheeseAfter being off Townsquare Media and Compass Media Networks’ “Free Beer & Hot Wings” since October 19, Joe Gassmann has announced he resigned from the show.

In a statement released by his lawyer, Gassmann wrote, “After a 20-year career in radio, Joe Gassmann has decided to leave the Free Beer & Hot Wings show. Joe thanks Gregg, Chris, Steve and Kelly, the loyal listeners and everyone who worked behind the scenes. He looks forward to following the show’s success in the years to come.”

After reading the statement on-air, host Gregg ‘Free Beer’ Daniels stated “We had a lot of good times, that is a fact. But we still have to do this job and we’re still lucky to get to do this job,” No reasons were given for the resignation and the legal statement.

Gassman joined the 97.9 WGRD Grand Rapids based show as Executive Producer in 2005 and then rose to co-host in 2015. He was arrested in March 2018 for domestic battery and remained off the show until the charges were dropped two months later.
