Longtime Philadelphia Oldies radio personality Jerry ‘The Geator” Blavat died early this morning at the age of 82.
Blavat’s “Geater Gold Radio” was currently heard daily on a network of stations in the region including 1490 WBCB/107.3 W297CL Levittown PA/Trenton NJ, from 5-7pm on “Cruisin’ 92.1” WVLT Vineland NJ, and 7-9pm on “Kool 98.3” WTKU Atlantic City. He also hosted a weekly Saturday night show on AAA 88.5 WXPN Philadelphia.
With a broadcast career spanning back to 1960, the South Philly native was heard on multiple stations in the market starting at WCAM Camden and later 1340 WHAT, 98.1 WCAU-FM, 560 WFIL, and 1540 WPGR. He also hosted television shows in the 60s on WCAU-TV and WFIL-TV. He has owned the Margate City NJ nightclub “Memories” since 1972 and continuously promoted concerts and dance parties in Philadelphia and down the shore.
