January 2022 (1/6 – 2/2) Nielsen Audio Ratings Day 4: New Record Highs For Adult R&B In Greensboro & Memphis

The fourth and final batch of Nielsen Audio’s PPM releases for the month bring Austin, Raleigh/Durham, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Providence, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Greensboro/Winston-Salem, West Palm Beach, Memphis, and Hartford.

Waterloo Media Variety Hits “103.5 Bob-FM” KBPA retakes the Austin market lead up 7.4 to 8.7. Audacy AC “Majic 95.5” KKMJ slips to second 12.6 to 6.8 to tie Public News/Talk 90.1 KUT-FM (7.3 to 6.8). Classical 89.5 KMFA is publicly listed for the first time in fourth place down 7.3 to 6.8. AAA 98.9 KUTX places fifth 6.2 to 6.3.

Waterloo Classic Rock 93.7 KLBJ-FM jumps up 2.6 to 4.0. iHeartMedia CHR “96.7 Kiss-FM” KHFI rebounds 3.2 to 4.4, while their two Country stations move in opposite directions with 98.1 KVET-FM trending down 6.4 – 5.8 – 5.3 and “KASE 101” rising 3.3 to 4.3.

Public News/Talk 91.5 WUNC-FM surges to the top of the Raleigh/Durham market with a 6.9 to 9.6 jump. Radio One Adult R&B “Foxy 107.1/104.3” WFXC/WFXK is second 8.5 to 8.1. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk “106.1 FM Talk” WTKK rises 6.3 to 7.4. Capitol Broadcasting AC “Mix 101.5” WRAL-FM is fourth 10.4 to 7.1. Curtis Media Classic Hits “Kix 102.9” WKIX-FM jumps 5.0 to 6.3.

Radio One Hip Hop “K97.5” WQOK trends down 5.4 – 4.8 – 3.7, while Curtis Media CHR “Pulse-FM” WPLW/WWPL slides 2.9 – 2.4 – 1.8. Curtis News/Talk 680 WPTF rises 2.4 to 3.3. iHeartMedia Classic Hip Hop “95.3 The Beat” WDCG-HD2 debuted with a 1.4 share after a 2.5 last month with its “Christmas 95.3” stunt.

Cumulus Media Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK snags the Indianapolis lead up 9.7 to 11.2. Emmis News/Talk 93.1 WIBC rises 8.8 to 10.6 for second, while sister AC “B105.7” WYXB places third 15.5 to 7.0. Cumulus Country 95.5 WFMS is fourth 5.7 to 6.0. Radio One Adult R&B 106.7 WTLC-FM (6.6 to 5.7) and Public News/Talk 90.1 WFYI (6.2 to 5.7) tie for fifth.

Trending up in Indy: Emmis Country “97.1 Hank-FM” WLHK (3.8 to 5.2), Sarkes Tarzian AAA 92.3 WTTS (3.0 to 3.7), and Cumulus Rock “93.9X” WNDX (1.8 to 2.9).

iHeartMedia snags the top two spots in Milwaukee with Conservative Talk 1130 WISN rising 8.8 to 9.7 and Classic Hits “95.7 Big-FM” WRIT-FM holding most of its Christmas audience 9.8 to 9.3. Saga Classic Rock “Hometown Rock 96.5” WKLH drops 8.9 to 7.5. Good Karma News/Talk 620/103.3 WTMJ rises 6.7 to 7.2. iHeartMedia Country “FM 106.1” WMIL jumps up 4.8 to 6.9.

Saga Rock “102.9 The Hog” WHQG jumps up 4.4 to 5.5, while Audacy Hot AC “99.1 The Mix” WMYX makes a similar 4.5 to 5.5 gain.

Midwest Communications Variety Hits “96.3 Jack-FM” WCJK takes the Nashville lead up 6.7 to 7.2. Cumulus Conservative Talk “99.7 WTN” WWTN (6.1 to 6.9) and iHeartMedia Country “The Big 98” WSIX (5.4 to 6.9) tie for second. Public News/Talk 90.3 WPLN-FM jumps up 4.9 to 6.6. iHeartMedia Hip Hop “101.1 The Beat” WUBT is fifth up 6.0 to 6.3.

Hall Communications’ “Cat Country 98.1” WCTK leads Providence with a big 7.8 to 10.6 gain. iHeartMedia Rock 94.1 WHJY holds in second 9.8 to 10.4. Cumulus News/Talk 630 WPRO/99.7 WEAN rises to third up 6.7 to 7.0, while sister CHR “92 Pro-FM” WPRO-FM slides 7.8 to 6.1 and AC “Lite 105.1” WWLI places fifth 14.2 to 6.0.

Audacy Adult R&B “95.7 R&B” WVKL retakes its usual spot atop Norfolk up 10.6 to 11.1. Sister AC “101.3 2WD” WWDE is second 12.6 to 6.2. Sinclair Variety Hits “93.7 Bob-FM” WNOB is third up 5.3 to 5.9. Max Media AC “92.9 The Wave” WVBW (4.1 to 5.7) and Saga Rock “FM 99” WNOR (4.5 to 5.7) both rise up to tie for fourth. Saga Classic Rock “106.9 The Fox” WAFX is just a shred behind up 4.9 to 5.6.

Trending up in Norfolk: Max Media Country “97.3 The Eagle” WGH-FM (3.5 to 5.2), Audacy Hot AC “94.9 The Point” WPTE (3.5 to 5.1), and Sinclair Alternative “96X” WROX-FM (2.1 – 2.4 – 2.9). Trending down are both CHRs with Audacy’s “Z104” WNVZ slipping 2.6 – 2.5 – 2.3 and Max Media’s “Hot 100.5” WVHT down 2.8 – 2.4 – 1.7.

Cox Media Group News/Talk 104.5 WOKV-FM leads Jacksonville with a 7.0 to 9.6 gain, while co-owned Classic Rock “96.9 The Eagle” WJGL holds in second down 9.6 to 9.1. Renda AC 96.1 WEJZ places third 15.9 to 8.7. Both Country stations round out the top five with iHeartMedia’s 99.1 WQIK rising 6.7 to 7.9 and Renda’s “99.9 Gator Country” WGNE up 5.4 to 6.1.

Audacy Adult R&B 97.1 WQMG Greensboro surges up from its already high 11.5 share to 14.2 for what Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes is its largest share ever. Dick Broadcasting Classic Rock “Rock 92” WKRR rises to second 7.3 to 8.9. Audacy Hip Hop “102 Jamz” WJMH is up 7.2 to 8.6, while sister Variety Hits “98.7 Simon” WSMW slips 9.3 to 8.2. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 94.5 WPTI rises to fifth 4.0 to 6.5 with Huff noting that ties the station record set in November 2020.

Hubbard Hot AC 97.9 WRMF leads West Palm Beach up 7.7 to 9.1, while sister Classic Hits “Sunny 107.9” WEAT places second 12.0 to 7.4. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Gater 98.7” WKGR rises to third 6.2 to 6.7, while sister AC “Kool 105.5” WOLL places fourth 6.6 to 5.0. Hubbard Adult R&B “X102.3” WMBX is fifth 4.1 to 4.2.

iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 1290 WJNO trends up 1.8 – 2.3 – 2.9.

103.5 WRBO MemphisCumulus Adult R&B 103.5 WRBO Memphis jumps up 11.3 to 14.1 for what Huff notes is the largest share ever for that facility. iHeartMedia Gospel “Hallelujah 95.7” WHAL holds steady at a 9.0 share, while their Adult R&B “V101” KJMS slips 9.8 to 8.5. Audacy AC “104.5 The River” WRVR (14.0 to 6.4) and iHeartMedia R&B Oldies 1070 WDIA (5.6 to 6.4) tie for fourth. Just outside the top five, iHeartMedia Hip Hop “K97” WHRK falls 7.3 to 6.3.

Trending up in Memphis: Audacy Hot AC “FM100” WMC-FM (4.1 to 5.2) and Cumulus Country “Kix 106” WGKX (3.0 to 4.7). Flinn Broadcasting Classic Hits 107.5 WHBQ-FM returns to the public listings for the first time since its September 2020 format change registering a 1.7 share.

Audacy AC “Lite 100.5” WRCH retains its Hartford market lead 18.6 to 11.6. Three stations tie for second: Public News/Talk 90.5 WNPR (6.9 to 8.6 for a station record), iHeartMedia Classic Hits “105.9 The River” WHCN (5.6 to 8.6), and iHeartMedia Country 92.5 WWYZ (8.7 to 8.6). Audacy Hot AC 96.5 WTIC-FM trends up 6.7 – 7.4 – 8.4.

Full Power Radio Classic Rock “102.9 The Whale” WDRC-FM jumps up 4.1 to 5.8.
