iHeartMedia has announced the appointment of Marshal Burgess as Market President for their Portland OR cluster.
Burgess has been with the cluster for 25 years rising from an account executive in 1997 to Local Sales Manager, General Sales Manager, VP/Sales, and since 2018 SVP/Sales. He briefly worked at CBS Radio Portland before joining what would become iHeartMedia.
Burgess succeeds Peter Landry, who had led the iHeartMedia Portland cluster since August 2018.
iHeartMedia announced today that Marshal Burgess has been named Market President for Portland, effective immediately. iHeartMedia Portland has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing eight stations comprised of music, talk and news formats.
iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Market President, Burgess will be responsible for developing and managing key partnerships with current and potential clients that grow revenue across iHeartMedia platforms as well as building relationships within the community and providing leadership, guidance and oversight to the team, while fostering an inclusive and high-performance culture with high ethical standards. He will report to Tony Coles, Division President for iHeartMedia Multiplatform Group and President of BIN: Black Information Network.
“It has been incredible to witness Marshal’s growth and success over the years,” said Coles. “Few leaders bring the kind of experience, integrity, and vision that Marshal brings to the table. We look forward to Marshal building upon our history of success in Portland.”
Burgess is a veteran of the Portland radio market, having been with iHeartMedia for 25 years. He started out as an Account Executive in 1997, then was named Local Sales Manager in 2003, was elevated to General Sales Manager in 2005 and was promoted to Vice President of Sales in 2015 before being elevated once again to Senior Vice President of Sales in 2018. He began his career at CBS Radio in 1996 and is a graduate of the University of Oregon.
“I’ve spent my entire life in Portland and grew up listening to Z100, not to mention many seasons listening to the Blazers on KEX,” said Burgess. “The support and positive energy I’ve received from Tony Coles and the entire team here in Portland have been unbelievable. I’m very excited for the future and am truly humbled by the opportunity.”
