Global’s Make Some Noise has raised more than £3 million today, taking the total raised over 10 years to more than £34 million.
For its tenth appeal, Global’s radio brands and presenters joined forces to raise funds for 100 charities in local communities across the UK.
In aid of this year’s appeal, Heart Breakfast’s Amanda Holden and Ashley Roberts asked listeners to donate in support of their “Race Against Time” – five challenges in five days. It kicked off on Monday this week with Amanda delivering a live broadcast from the top of the Blackpool Tower – the first member of the public to ever climb that high.
Ashley Roberts also created a #TrollsDanceChallenge in partnership with Trolls Band Together, the brand-new animated film from Universal Pictures UK which has matched £150,000 worth of donations.
On Radio X, Chris Moyles and his breakfast team recreated their Pubcast, now in its eighth year, encouraging listeners to download and donate. This year’s guests were Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno and Johnny Vaughan. One competition winner also took home a Fender Player guitar, signed by Blur.
On Sunday, Heart Scotland’s Des Clarke and Capital Scotland’s Fat Brestovci will be taking a plunge off the Forth Rail Bridge, dangling 165 feet above ground level as they abseil for Des and Fat’s Big Drop.
Stephen Miron, Group CEO of Global, said: “A massive thank you to all our listeners, presenters and Globallers who have once again come together to support just some of the incredible charities who dedicate their time to helping vulnerable people in local communities across the UK.
“Everyone’s collective effort has raised a remarkable £3 million which will have a profound impact on those facing extraordinarily difficult circumstances.”
Suzanne Ryder Richardson, Director of Global Goodness, Global’s Make Some Noise, added: “We are proud to have supported over 175,000 people over the last 10 years, funding projects in local communities run by small charities tackling food poverty, domestic abuse, homelessness, loneliness, and supporting people struggling with their mental health.
“Right now, millions of people across the UK are facing some of their toughest moments so it’s a time when support has never been more crucial.
“Thanks to the generosity of Global’s audiences, we will be able to be there for more communities, more people, and more life changing projects, making sure nobody is left facing their biggest challenges alone.
“A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported, the money raised really will make a life changing difference. There is still time to donate and to help change a life in a community near you.”
