David ‘Gilligan’ Oregon departed Cumulus CHR “Z96” WZNS Fort Walton Beach FL after over 25 years at the station.
After beginning his career as ‘David Lee’ at 103.1 WMXZ and then working part time across what became the Cumulus Fort Walton Beach cluster, Gilligan joined WZNS full-time in 1999 as evening host. He would move to afternoons in October 2002 and mornings in February 2008. He has served as midday host since September 2016.
In a Facebook post, Gilligan wrote last week, “Now, to answer the BIG question. No, I am not getting fired. I have always said that if I ever stop loving what I was doing I needed to go. That’s where I am. I have been blessed to work on one radio station for my entire radio career and in my hometown! I’ve worked with some amazing people in and out of the building. Sales, management, dj’s, weekend warriors, and clients! I’ve had so many amazing interactions with you the listener. Some have become great friends! I love each and every one of you! I am saying my goodbye today because I know that Friday is going to be a crazy day and that by then, the emotions are going to be stupidly high and I don’t know that I’d be able to make it through without crashing hard! So, thank you for 28 years! Big thanks to mgt for allowing me to share this with you and say my goodbye to my other family and you guys are family. No matter how dysfunctional we can be, we’re still family! I wish nothing but continued success for Z96 and the Fort Walton Beach Cumulus family.”
Cumulus has begun a search for someone to serve as cluster Production Director and to fill the opening on the WZNS lineup. Details can be found on the company’s job portal.
