After 30 years in Houston and fifty years in radio, Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ Houston afternoon host ‘Funky’ Larry Jones will exit the station following his show today.
Jones joined KMJQ in 1994 to host “Jones & Company” in mornings for a decade. After stints in mornings at Smooth Jazz “95.7 The Wave” KHJZ and Gospel “Praise 92.1” KROI, he would return to KMJQ to host afternoons in 2014 and has been teamed with comedian Ali Siddiq since January 2021. Prior to Houston, the Alabama native had stints at WBLS New York, WGCI Chicago, and WMMJ Washington. He was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2022.
Jones departure continues a string of high profile talent departures from Radio One stations in recent weeks including syndicated morning host Russ Parr and WMMJ Washington afternoon host Donnie Simpson.
