John Fuller’s Red Wolf Broadcasting Corporation, which operates under the Full Power Radio brand, is acquiring AC 97.3 WZBG Litchfield/Torrington CT from Local Girls And Boys Broadcasting Corporation for an undisclosed amount.
The deal extends Fuller’s company in northwestern Connecticut, where it owns Talk 610 WSNG/104.5 W283DO Torrington joining its stations in the Hartford and New London markets in the state as well as Providence RI and Springfield MA. The sellers, led by managing partner Virginia Mortara and including longtime NBC executive Dick Ebersol and wife Susan Saint James along with Mortara’s late husband former Goldman Sachs CEO Michael Mortara, have owned WZBG since its sign-on in 1992.
In an announcement made today, Jennifer Parsons, General Manager of WZBG, announced that the station’s owners – Local Girls & Boys Broadcasting Corporation (LGB) have sold the station to long time Connecticut Based Group Radio Company – Red Wolf Broadcasting Corporation, for an undisclosed price.
Today, a transfer application, subject to FCC Approval, has been filed with the regulatory body. Since placing the station on-the-air in 1992, WZBG has been a storied fixture and trusted voice of the Litchfield and Torrington marketplace, providing news, community service, vital information, and entertainment to the
region. Speaking for LGB, managing partner Virginia Mortara, indicated that… ”it was a difficult decision for the ownership group [consisting of actress Susan Saint James and storied media executive Dick Ebersol] …” but the time has come for us to turn the reins over to new and exciting ownership to move the station forward to its next chapter of its success.”Red Wolf Broadcasting is headed by founder and CEO John Fuller, who commented…” local ownership of radio stations is a core commitment which we take seriously and we’re excited about the pending ownership of the station and plan no staff changes, but we are looking to enhance the heritage created by its originators over 32 years ago.” Red Wolf is a long-term owner of multiple radio stations in Connecticut, [including WDRC, WMRQ and WBMW], as well as radio stations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
