Fred Toucher Extends With WBZ-FM; What About Rich Shertenlieb?

Beasley Media’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM Boston has announced a multiyear contract extension with morning host Fred Toucher.

Toucher and partner Rich Shertenlieb have worked together since the early 2000s starting at Alternative “99X” WNNX Atlanta. They would move to 104.1 WBCN Boston in 2006 as afternoon hosts and move to mornings in 2008. They would then take over mornings at “The Sports Hub” when it launched in 2009 replacing WBCN with a frequency move.

While Toucher has signed a new deal with WBZ-FM, Shertenlieb was not mentioned in the announcement. Earlier on Wednesday, he changed his social media handle from @ToucherAndRich to @HeyRichHey. The Boston Globe reports that further clarification on the show should be coming soon. While the announcement of Toucher’s new contract was being made, WBZ-FM was in the process of winning Sports Station of the Year at the Marconi Awards in New York.

Beasley Media Group announces Fred Toucher has signed a multiyear contract to continue to serve at the helm of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston’s Award-winning morning show for years to come. Under Toucher’s tenure, the show has been recognized among the top sports morning shows in America and has won numerous national industry awards including a Marconi Award.

Toucher was a foundational member of the launch of the station in August 2009. Prior to joining the 98.5 Sports Hub team, he worked at the former legendary rock station, WBCN. Prior to coming to Boston, Fred was in Atlanta at 99X.

“I am thrilled to be able to work with my Beasley family over the coming years,” said Toucher. “I will continue my record of immense competence and brilliance.”

“We are thrilled that Sports Hub listeners will be able to hear Fred’s unique brand of humor each weekday morning for years to come,” said Vice President and Market Manager Mary Menna.

“Fred has been entertaining Sports Hub listeners each morning since 2009 with his compelling viewpoints and opinions on a wide range of topics,” said station Program Director Rick Radzik. We are very pleased that he will continue on with us for years to come.”
