FCC Actions
Following a federal appeals court victory by the NAB and others in 2022, the FCC has revamped the Foreign Sponsorship Rules it had adopted in 2021.
The new order gives licensees to options for compliance. The first option has both the licensee and the lessee completing a written certification. The second has the lessee providing screenshots searching for their own name on two federal government databases. The order also clarifies the types of sponsorships that the identification requirements will apply to as ads for commercial products or services are exempt as are political candidate advertisements. However issue advertisements, paid PSAs, and religious programming are not exempt. Non-commercial stations remain exempt from the order
The full order can be read here.
Best Country Broadcasting’s Country 920 WBOX Bogalusa and 92.9 WBOX-FM Varnado LA has entered a Consent Decree with the FCC for failing to timely file its license renewal application in 2020 or upload documents to its Online Public File prior to May 2024.
