FCC Report 5/5: Boston Area AM Cancelled After Unauthorized Operation

License Cancellations

Langer Broadcast Group’s 1410 WZBR Dedham/Boston and translator 98.1 W251CR Medford MA were cancelled as both were silent or operating with unauthorized facilities for more than a year. WZBR went silent on March 5, 2023 following the death of owner Alex Langer. The station filed a resumption of operation with the FCC noting that it was operating with 10 watts from a different location and then filed an STA to operate with those facilities a week later. WZBR then filed to go silent again on April 2.

Southern Oregon University’s 1490 KSYC Yreka CA was cancelled after failing to respond to an FCC inquiry into its operational status. The commission noted that KSYC has been silent since at least July 19, 2022.

The FCC has cancelled American Asset Management’s 1390 KHOB Hobbs NM with the station recorded as silent since June 28, 2022. The licensee failed to respond to the FCC’d operational inquiry in February.

FCC Actions

The FCC is opening a comment period for Hispanic Target Media’s proposal to modify the FM Table of Allotments.

Hispanic Target Media’s Regional Mexican “Radio Amigo” 106.1 KPQP Panhandle TX applied last September to move to 94.9 to a site closer to Amarillo with 25kW/99.8m. To make that move possible, the vacant Class C1 on 94.9 in Canadian TX would be moved to 104.9 pending a counter-proposal.
