FCC Report 11/6: WECU Fined $8000 For Multiple Violations

FCC Seal 2020 Federal Communications CommissionCTC Media Group’s “ESPN 1570” WECU Winterville NC has agreed to an $8,000 fine as part of a consent decree for operating at reduced daytime power without authorization, failing to maintain station logs, and originating programming on 107.5 W298BX Winterville while WECU was silent.

Genesee Community College’s 90.7 WGCC-FM Batavia NY has entered into a consent decree with the FCC and agreed to a $500 fine for failing to maintain its Online Public File and failing to timely file its license renewal. WGCC-FM was to file its renewal application by February 1, 2022 but did not do so until March 31.

Brentwood Union Free School District’s 88.1 WXBA Brentwood NY has entered into a consent decree with the FCC and agreed to a $500 fine for failing to maintain its Online Public File and failing to timely file its license renewal. WXBA was to file its renewal by February 1, but did not do so until May 31 just one day before its license would have expired on June 1.

The FCC has entered into a consent decrees with Capital Broadcasting, Inc.’s 1300 WGDJ Rensselaer NY for failing to maintain their Political Files:

Pirate Actions

Raphael Soucie was issued a Notice of Illegal Pirate Broadcasting after agents found transmissions on 107.3 and later 107.5 emanating from his property in Walsenburg CO.

Deletions

After being silent and then operating at reduced power for the past three years due to damaged transmitters and nighttime directional antenna system, Radio Broadcasting Services has turned in the license for 1390 WCAT Burlington VT. Its translator, 98.3 W252CJ Burlington is now rebroadcasting “Rock 103.3” WWMP Waterbury directly. WCAT had also been simulcasting WWMP.

WNTT Inc. has surrendered the license of Country “Wild 93.7” 1250 WNTT Tazewell TN stating that its broadcast equipment failed and the expense of replacement and repair was too much.

After being deleted in July for being off the air for over one calendar year, Grinnell College’s 88.5 KDIC Grinnell IA has been restored after the station successfully petitioned the FCC stating that because it was an educational license allowed to cease operation while its campus was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
