Elroy Smith To Present Boston Radio Reunion & Awards

Veteran programmer Elroy Smith is continuing his tour of Radio Reunions & Awards on Friday, July 26 as he hosts the “Boston Radio Reunion & Awards” at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Boston.

The event, which follows a similar event last year in Chicago, “will be an evening of reconnecting, networking with current and former radio industry people. Boston has such a rich history of excellence in broadcasting that should be preserved and celebrated.”

Awards recipients will include:

  • 1090 W.I.L.D Radio Award will go to 29-year mid-day host at KMJQ (Magic 102.1) Houston, Kandi Eastman. She started her professional radio career with WILD. 
  • The Sunny Joe White Award will be presented to one of the most dynamic former WXKS (Kiss 108), Boston on-air personalities, JoJo ‘Cookin’ Kincaid.
  • The Emerson College Media Achievement Award will be given to former 1090 WILD programmer/on-air personality & former President of Music Programming & Specials at BET., Stephen Hill.
  • The Legacy Entertainment Award will be presented to Boston music icon of New Edition and national syndicated radio personality, Ralph Tresvant.

Coinciding with the event, Boston Mayer Michelle Wu will proclaim July 26, 2024 as “1090 WILD Day“. Smith, currently Cox Media Group Director of Urban Content, programmed the AM daytimer from 1983 to 1988 pushing it to as high as a 2.9 share overall and was the first PD to play New Edition’s “Candy Girl” during his time at the station. He was inducted into the Emerson College WERS Hall Of Fame for his time at the station while attending the college.
