East Devon Radio to rebrand as DevonAir Radio

Community service East Devon Radio is changing its name to DevonAir Radio as a nod to the heritage ILR of the same name.

It’ll be the 4th name for the station since it launched as Bay FM, which was also known as ExmouthAiR Radio for just under three years.

The name change comes in on March 1st 2024, but volunteers say the core identity of the station will remain intact.

Co-founder and station manager, Andy Green, expressed his pride in securing the “DevonAir Radio” brand, a name that has long been aspired for. Andy said: “This marks the culmination of our journey over the past 10 years of broadcasting to become DevonAir Radio.

“We’ll continue being the station listeners know and love, just with a new name that truly represents our location, while our music remains unchanged.”

DevonAir originally launched in 1980 and was bought by Capital Radio in 1987. It closed down in 1994 after a new company won the licence after a renewal process. The frequencies became home to Gemini which then turned into Heart.

Andy adds: “As DevonAir Radio looks ahead to the Spring launch, the team remains dedicated to delivering quality programming and connecting with its audience in a meaningful way.

“The station invites its listeners to join them on this exciting journey as they embark on a fresh chapter, rooted in the rich tapestry of Devon’s cultural landscape.”
