The developer of the first “AI” radio personality is returning to the industry after thirteen years away.
Dominique Garcia is joining Townsquare Media as its new Director of Content overseeing their stations in Midland/Odessa TX. Garcia is best known for adapting an early “Virtual Assistant” program to on-air personality “Denise” in 2011. That attempt got national attention and in many ways, despite years of iterations is not that much different than the “AI” personalities used on-air now in terms of how it worked.
Garcia has also worked on-air at KTFM and KXXM San Antonio, XHTO El Paso, and KNDA Corpus Christi, was a writer for the San Antonio Express-News, and has held many digital and social media management positions.
He shared on Facebook, “This happened BY ACCIDENT. I was NOT trying to get back in radio and somehow, here I am. They also told me I will also be contributing on air as well so, there’s that. I never thought I’d ever be in radio again, let alone on the radio. I have been keeping this pretty much a secret from almost everyone for many weeks. I am going to kill this opportunity. I have so many creative ideas its crazy. My entire life has changed as of now and I couldn’t be anymore excited.”
Garcia takes the role most recently held by Kris Moore. Moore exited in October after just ten months in the position. Townsquare Media operates Country “Lonestar 92.3” KNFM, Hip Hop “B93” KZBT, Hot AC “Mix 97.9” KODM, Classic Rock 99.9 KBAT, and “Fox Sports 1510/95.5” KMND/K258AO in the Midland/Odessa market.
