Details of the Radio Academy ARIAS 2022 announced

The Radio Academy has announced the ARIAS 2022 will take place on May 10th at a theatre in London.

The ceremony will be subject to the changing conditions of the pandemic, but current plans are for an in-person-only event.

Entries for the awards will open on Tuesday 4 January, and be open for five weeks and the eligibility period for entries will be the calendar year 2021.

The categories have been published on The Radio Academy website. Most categories are the same as last year, with some small changes to some award criteria.

The award for Best Coverage of a Live Event has returned, having been shelved during the height of the pandemic, and the Academy has confirmed that the judges will accept a wide definition of “event” to include virtual events and events without an audience.

The date from which Best Breakfast Show audio should be selected has also been included in the rubrics.

The primary date is Thursday 11 November 2021, and two backup dates have been provided if stations’ main breakfast show teams were absent on that date.

In another small change for 2022, audio compilations for the two Station of the Year and two Breakfast Show categories will be allowed to be 20 minutes long, while other categories remain at 15 minutes.

Phil Riley, Chair of Judges for The ARIAS, said: “What a pleasure it is to be Chairing the judging of this year’s awards again, after another challenging twelve months for us all.

“The quality of radio and audio we have created and listeners have heard in 2021 is, I suspect, of the highest order. All you need do now is bundle it up into a neat entry and fire it off!”
