Derek James Returns To KRMD-FM As Morning Host

Derek James is once again returning to Cumulus Media Country 101.1 KRMD-FM Shreveport LA as morning host.

James has previously spent fifteen years at KRMD-FM over multiple stints since starting his career at the station in 1989. He most recently hosted mornings with Melinda Coyer from 2016-18. He has also worked at 93.7 KITT Shreveport in his career.

He takes the morning slot that had been held by Mason Stanfield until his move to PD/morning host at Cumulus’ “Cat Country 95.1” KATC Colorado Springs in June.

Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) announces that it has appointed Shreveport Country radio personality Derek James as On-Air Host, Morning Drive, on Country station 101.1 KRMD-FM. James can now be heard by Shreveport Country music fans on 101.1 KRMD-FM Monday through Friday from 6:00am-10:00am.

This marks a return to Mornings on 101.1 KRMD-FM for James, who started his radio career at 101.1 KRMD-FM in 1989. He has also been heard on Country-formatted KITT-FM (now KXKS-FM) in Shreveport.

Charlie Cook, Vice President, Country, Cumulus Media, said: “It is great to have Derek back in the seat where he can help lead the station to its rightful place as Shreveport’s #1 Country radio station.”

Anthony “Big Ant” Simmons, Program Director, 101.1 KRMD-FM, noted: “From the first time I met Derek when I moved to Shreveport almost a decade ago, he epitomized what Country truly is. From his walk, talk and true-to-life country charm, to his historical knowledge of Country music in Shreveport and the impact it’s had on Country radio across the nation, I knew he was the only choice to help bring KRMD back to its days of glory and beyond! Derek is Country, Derek is Shreveport, Derek is All-American 101.1 KRMD… Welcome home!”

Derek James remarked: “It’s like a dream – pinch me. 15 of my 28 years in radio have been at KRMD. After a five-year hiatus, it was the perfect time to come back on mornings. We’ve got an unbelievable leadership team here at Cumulus, and it’s great to be back home!”
