After cutting its airstaff in September ahead of a format change, Corus Radio announced today that Soft AC “Peggy 99.1” CFPG-FM Winnipeg will flip to Country as “Country 99” at 12:01am on December 27.
The new format will create a direct format competitor to Pattison Media’s “QX 104” CFQX-FM and Native Communications’ “Now Country 104.7” CIUR-FM, the latter of which mixes Country with local and Indigenous artists. The station will join Corus’ network of Country stations that also includes Calgary, Edmonton and London ON.
CFPG-FM has been running Christmas music since mid-November.

On December 27 at 12:01 a.m. Country 99 will officially hit the airwaves. Targeting country music purists and new country fans, Country 99 will give listeners a fresher and fun offering of music, playing the biggest hits and the great throwbacks from the country universe.
“We are so excited to bring the hot country format to Winnipeg,” says Ronnie Stanton, Vice President, Corus Audio. “It’s time for Winnipeg to finally have an exciting, upbeat country station that’s full of new music discovery.”
Country 99 joins Corus’ powerhouse collection of award-winning country stations that include CISN Country in Edmonton, Country 105 in Calgary, and Country 104 in London.
The station’s show lineup with be announced later this month. In the meantime, listeners can follow the station on social media @country99wpg to check out great country music content and get the scoop on contests and more.
