Christmas Music Season Starts In The UK

The temperature is still in the triple digits in many parts of the US, kids are just starting school, and Pumpkin Spice coffees were released yesterday, but in the United Kingdom the first all-Christmas station has launched.

Exe Broadcasting Limited AC “Radio Exe” in Exeter has launched “Radio Exemas” on their DAB+ multicasts and streaming platforms. The station will run commercial-free through Twelfth Night, the customary time in the UK for taking down holiday decorations twelve days after Christmas.

INSTANT INSIGHT: Why aren’t more US stations using their HD subchannels and streaming apps to launch limited-run or full-time brand extensions?

With just 122 days to go to Christmas, Devon has a new radio station! Radio ExeMas has gone on air exactly four months ahead of the big day, to bring happiness and joy as the nights drawn in, children return to school and Santa starts getting his act together.

The station, from Devon’s Radio Exe, broadcasts on DAB+ in Exeter and the surrounding area, as well as being streamed on its own website and on the Radio Exe app and website too. To play on a smart speaker say: “Ask MyTuner Radio to play Radio Exemas.”

Radio ExeMas plays Christmas songs non-stop, and will be doing so until Twelfth Night, the traditional day for taking festive things down.

It’s thought to be the first Christmas radio station to have launched this season.

Radio Exe presenter Matt Rogers said: “Feliz Navidad! Whilst I’d simply love to play non-stop Christmas songs on Radio Exe, Mr Scrooge who runs the station has kiboshed that 😡. Radio ExeMas is the solution though, so whenever you fancy a festive fix, select it on your digital radio.”

As well as being available on Exeter’s DAB+ network, Radio ExeMas will launch on Torbay and Plymouth’s forthcoming digital radio networks when they go on air before the big day.
