Chris Sommer To Depart KRLD

Chris Sommer will depart his position as afternoon news anchor on Audacy News 1080 KRLD Dallas on Friday, June 17.

Sommer has been a staple in the Dallas market since the early 90s when he first joined News/Talk 570 KLIF as a newscaster and then spent two decades as part of the morning show at Country “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX from 1992 to 2011. He joined KRLD and the Texas State Network in 2012.

In a Facebook comment announcing his departure, Sommer wrote, “Good morning! As some of you correctly surmised after reading my brief post on Saturday, I am leaving KRLD/TSN effective Friday, June 17. But I also have made the decision to leave the broadcasting industry, which has been so good to me for nearly 40 years. It’s the only real job I’ve had since I was a teenager, and it’s been a wonderful ride.

I am departing to take on a completely new challenge in a totally different field. It’s out of my comfort zone, but I think I’m gonna love it, and as I mentioned on Saturday, I am extremely excited for the next chapter.

I have seen a lot of teammates come and go over the years, and I have always thought it extremely unfair when someone you listen to vanishes without explanation. I did not want that to be the case in my situation. I consider each of you a friend, and I want you to know that I will still be around. Please holler at me anytime.

Thanks for all your kindness and friendship and thank you for allowing me to come through your radios over these many years. And one more thing for my friend Chopejoe Rodriquez Jr. – maybe I will make it out your way to take in a Lindale game this fall!

May God bless you all!!

As my friend Cody Alan used to say, bye for now.”
