Following the retirement of Jenn Ryan at the end of March, Audacy AC “B101” WBEB Philadelphia is revamping its on-air lineup.
Bobby Smith, who has been hosting afternoons at the station since November 2021, will move to mornings alongside producer Laura Boss from 6-10am and then solo from 10am-12pm. A South Jersey native, Smith began his career at Modern AC “Max 95.7” WXXM in the late 90s and later programmed Hot AC “Mix 105.1” WOMX and CHR “101.9 Amp Radio” WJHM Orlando before returning to the CBS Radio turned Audacy cluster in April 2015. During his tenure, Smith has programmed CHR “96.5 Amp Radio” WZMP turned AC “Today’s 96.5” and Hot AC “96.5 TDY” WTDY-FM including time in mornings before moving to PD/afternoons at Classic Hits 98.l WOGL and then to WBEB.
Bill Tafrow will move in reverse from mornings to the 12-7pm afternoon shift. Tafrow has been with WBEB since 2004 first as morning show producer before moving up to host alongside Ryan in 2014.
Smith wrote, “I’m excited to share some incredible work #news: beginning Monday (April 14th) I’m moving from hosting afternoons to MORNINGS on @b101philly —you can now hear me every weekday morning starting at 6 a.m.! Our award-winning previous show with Jenn & Bill are both now enjoying staying up late and sleeping in. Jenn recently retired and Bill is moving to my #1 rated #philly afternoon spot (no pressure, @btafrow ha!). Thankfully @laurabossss is staying on to help me drive the ship and keep me sane. Cheers to an exciting new chapter. Let’s have some fun together every morning and know that “Happy Hour” now starts at noon instead of in the evening (I know some of you reading this always start Happy Hour that early anyway )”
