After being let go in last week’s company-wide layoffs, Christopher ‘Morty’ Sampaio is returning to his role as morning show producer and Production Director at Beasley Media Classic Hits 96.3 KKLZ Las Vegas.
A Beasley spokesperson confirmed the news that was broken on social media by @ShittyRadioJock noting that Morty will return to the station next Monday after word got out to CEO Caroline Beasley that the company had laid off someone battling stage 4 cancer for the past two years. The report stated that Caroline Beasley personally reached out to Sampaio to apologize and reinstate him with full medical benefits.
Sampaio was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, along with spots on his liver, and some lymph nodes in 2022 and KKLZ morning co-hosts Mike O’Brian and Carla Rea reopened a GoFundMe to cover his medical costs following his layoff.
Morty had been with KKLZ since 2019 after previously holding the same roles at Audacy Hot AC “Mix 94.1” KMXB from 2010-19. He also spent twelve years at Clear Channel Honolulu.
