BBC Asian Network has launched a search for the nation’s favourite 90s Bollywood banger.
Announced on Asian Network Breakfast, voting opened at 8am (Tuesday 7 May) and will close after ten days (2pm, Friday 17 May) – offering listeners up to five votes to participate online in the station first.
A shortlist of 50 tracks have been collated by a panel of network presenters – Haroon Rashid, Nikita Kanda, Gagan Grewal, and Nadia Ali – and industry experts – Asim Burney, Amrita Tanna, and Karan Pangali – to cover the biggest hits across party anthems, love songs, super hits and of course choreographed numbers.
Listeners can tune in to a countdown show with Nikita Kanda & Haroon Rashid from 7am on Friday 31 May 2024, where they will be revealing the winner of the Ultimate 90s Bollywood Song on Asian Network and BBC Sounds.
Haroon Rashid says: “90’s Bollywood encapsulates everything we love about Hindi cinema – romance, drama, action, comedy – and music is at the very heart of it all. The songs and melodies of the 90’s are among the most iconic of all time.
“Hearing just the first few seconds of any of those songs can evoke such huge nostalgia and yet the compositions still sound so fresh and current.
“This is one of the most exciting votes we’ve ever done at Asian Network and I can’t wait to find out which anthem the listeners crown as the Ultimate 90’s Bollywood Song.”
