Axel Lowe To Depart 99X

Axel Lowe 99X 100.5 WNNX AtlantaAxel Lowe will depart his role as Program Director and afternoon host at Cumulus Media Classic Alternative “99X” WNNX College Park/Atlanta at the end of this week ending a 30 year connection with the company and its predecessors for a new opportunity.

Lowe spent the majority of his career in Atlanta joining “99X” in 1992 and stayed with the company after the calls were moved to 100.5 and relaunched as “Rock 100.5“ with much of his tenure as APD/afternoon host and programming the “99X” brand on multiple translators. He moved to “96 Rock” WFTK Cincinnati in December 2014 as Program Director and then returned to WNNX in July 2019 before overseeing the relaunch of “99X” last December. Lowe also spent time co-hosting mornings and then afternoons with ‘Southside’ Steve Rickman prior to the relaunch of the Alternative brand.

In an e-mail memo to staff, Cumulus Atlanta VP/Market Manager Sean Shannon writes, “Our friend, our colleague, our teammate and our playmate Axel Lowe has made the difficult decision to hang the headphones up here at Cumulus Atlanta to seek new challenges. Words cannot express my gratitude, personally, to Axel for all that he has done to make our products better each and every day he came to work. Case in point is the work that he’s done in launching 99x so successfully.”
