Greg James goes live again on Christmas Day at BBC Radio 1

BBC Radio 1 has confirmed its Christmas Takeover line-up and revealed a Christmas Day schedule that includes Greg James presenting his first live Christmas Day Breakfast show on the network.

Greg says he is looking forward to returning to live Christmas Day broadcasting and sharing the morning with Radio 1 listeners.
After Greg, the schedule will feature pre-recorded specials from JADE, GK Barry and Ella Rutherford, Munya Chawawa, Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, George Clarke and Charley Marlowe.
From Boxing Day through to New Year’s Eve, the station will once again hand over key shows to new talent from across the UK. Created in 2019, the Takeover has introduced more than one hundred and seventy emerging presenters to the network, with several now part of the regular schedule.
This year’s group includes Cai Sherlock from York, who will host Radio 1 Anthems. Cai fronts an evening show on YO1 and has worked at major sporting events, including interviewing Formula One World Champion Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix.
Maddi Fearn from Sheffield will take on Radio 1’s Future Artists. Maddi won Gold at the Student Radio Awards and currently presents on Voices.
Gura Randhawa from Newcastle will co-host Radio 1’s Life Hacks. Gura presents a Saturday afternoon show on BBC Asian Network and co-hosts the One More Chai podcast.
Bobbi Bunker from Sunderland will host Radio 1 Anthems and currently presents on Spark Sunderland while also contributing to BFBS Radio.
Cai says he is thrilled to be part of the Takeover, and Maddi says covering Future Artists is something her younger self would have found hard to believe. Gura says joining the station for the festive period feels significant, and Bobbi says presenting on Radio 1 Anthems is a treat.
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says the Takeover continues to shape how the station discovers new presenters and that he is proud of what the initiative has become.
Christmas Day on Radio 1 will feature Greg’s Breakfast show followed by festive programmes from JADE, GK Barry and Ella Rutherford, Munya Chawawa, Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, and George Clarke and Charley Marlowe.

DMG Media moves into radio with WLR acquisition

The Daily Mail Group has agreed to acquire The Irish Times’ seventy five per cent shareholding in WLR FM, marking the organisation’s first step into radio in Ireland.
The Share Purchase Agreement was signed on Tuesday and is now subject to regulatory approval.
WLR Director Des Whelan will remain as a part-owner, retaining his twenty five per cent share under the new structure.
The Irish Times became a shareholder in WLR in 2018 through its purchase of Landmark Media Group, the former owner of the Examiner, the Echo and a number of regional titles.
The divestment completes the group’s move away from radio as it focuses on investing in its publishing titles and strengthening digital services for readers and subscribers.
The group had already sold its shareholdings in Beat 102-103 and Cork’s Red FM, which were also part of Landmark.
Irish Times Group Chief Financial Officer Michael Sheehan said WLR has been central to Waterford for many years and that the transaction gives the station an opportunity to begin a new chapter.
Michael thanked staff for their dedication over the decades and highlighted the station’s achievement of winning local radio station of the year five times since last year.

Bauer extends audioXi reach with new Audiomob partnership

Bauer Media Audio is adding in-app audio advertising to audioXi through a new partnership with Audiomob.

The agreement brings Audiomob’s technology to eight audioXi markets, widening the digital audio exchange’s offer to include brand-safe inventory inside mobile games.
audioXi already connects advertisers with digital radio, podcasts and streaming platforms. By integrating Audiomob’s format, it now allows brands to reach mobile gamers with audio ads that play during natural moments in gameplay without interrupting the experience.
Ads are only served when sound is enabled, and impressions are third-party verified, with the option of using a clickable companion banner for added engagement.
Bauer says the move strengthens audioXi’s in-app capabilities by introducing technology adopted by major global developers.
Alex Faust, Director of Advertising Innovation at Bauer Media Audio, said the partnership gives brands “a new way to connect with audiences during moments of deep focus and positive emotion without interrupting their experience,” adding that expanding this across audioXi markets unlocks further opportunities for scale.
Audiomob’s Co-Founder and CEO Christian Facey said the collaboration enhances its presence across Europe and provides advertisers with a scalable way to reach engaged audiences.
The addition of gaming inventory builds on audioXi’s position as a growing European digital audio marketplace, offering advertisers access to audiences across broadcast radio, podcasts, streaming and now interactive gaming. The partnership also reflects Bauer Media Audio’s continued focus on cross-market digital innovation.
The rollout covers Ireland, the UK, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Slovakia and Poland.
