Ashley Wilson Moves To WKKT As Program Director

iHeartMedia Country “96.9 The Kat” WKKT Statesville/Charlotte NC has announced the addition of Ashley Wilson as Program Director and 1-3pm host starting Monday, October 16.

Wilson moves to Charlotte from Louisville where she has served as Director of Country Programming for the company’s Kentucky-Indiana region including 97.5 WAMZ Louisville and “98.1 The Bull” WBUL Lexington since July 2019. She has also programmed iHeart’s 101.1 WNOE New Orleans and APD/MD of WGNE Jacksonville, MD/morning co-host at WKML Fayetteville and on-air at WMMY in her native Boone NC.

Wilson fills the opening created by the departure of Shelley Easton earlier this year.

iHeartMedia Charlotte announced today that Ashley Wilson has been named Program Director and Midday Host for 96.9 The Kat, Charlotte’s #1 For New Country, effective Monday, October 16. Wilson will broadcast weekdays from 1pm-3pm.

iHeartMedia Charlotte has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than 6 stations comprised of music, talk and news formats.

iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Program Director, Ashley will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the station’s music, on-air personalities, programming, promotions and digital operations. She will report to A.J., iHeartMedia Region Senior Vice President of Programming for the Carolina Metro.

“Ashley holds a winning track record and I’m excited for her to join and lead our team at 96.9 The Kat,” said A.J. “Her unique vision, creativity and innovative style of thinking will ensure that the station continues to do great things in Charlotte.”
Wilson joins the Charlotte market from iHeartMedia’s Kentucky/West Virginia Region where she served as Director of Country Programming, with oversight of 97.5 WAMZ in Louisville and 98.1 The Bull in Lexington, amongst several other brands. She joined iHeartMedia in 2017 as the program director of 101.1 WNOE-FM in New Orleans. Wilson has served as on-air talent and in various programming and operations roles for over 15 years. A North Carolina native, she is a graduate of the National Radio Talent Institute and Appalachian State University.

“Country music has never been bigger, and Charlotte is a very exciting place to be. 96.9 The Kat reflects both,” said Wilson. “I could not be more excited to lead it to the forefront of a very fierce competitive country battle. I am also thrilled to return to my home state of North Carolina and build upon the success of this iconic brand with the iHeartMedia Charlotte team!”
