Obidia Porras’ KGHD-LD Las Vegas returned to the air last month as “Area 87.7“.
The station is featuring a mix of Dance, Hip Hop and Alternative. The songs heard in our sampling of the station around 12pm today were Beastie Boys “Intergalactic”, Beck “Colors”, The Crystal Method “Trip Like I Do”, Rage Against The Machine “Guerilla Radio”, and Chemical Brothers “Block Rockin’ Beats”, and Danger Mouse & Black Thought “Aquamarine”.
The low-power television station was last operated by Rafael Cerros Jr. and Rogelio ‘El Torito’ Regalado’s Latino Hustle Group as Regional Mexican “Fiesta 87.7” until the analog LPTV shutdown in July 2021. They would purchase 98.1 K251BS North Las Vegas in April 2021 and move their programming to the translator fed via Audacy’s 98.5 KLUC-HD3 as “Fiesta 98.1“. The station was given an STA to join the group of stations allowed to continue operating as a “Franken-FM” with an analog audio signal on 87.75 FM in its ATSC 3.0 digital video signal in September.
A job posting for an account executive made in September indicates the station is being operated by Walker Broadcast Group LLC. That company previously owned Alternative “Hella Radio” KNNN-LP Redding CA.
