Some of the team at Lymm Radio have been welcomed to Parliament by Warrington South MP and former radio director Andy Carter.
The station was celebrating Cheshire Day on 30th March but took the station for a special broadcast to London.
Presenters interviewed the Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Cheshire MPs Andy Carter, Esther McVey, Mike Amesbury, and the BBC’s political editor Chris Mason.
Alongside the interviews, listeners were also given a tour of the parliamentary estate which discussed the history of Palace of Westminster including Westminster Hall and Central Lobby.
To celebrate Cheshire’s local produce a Cheshire Cheese Company gourmet gift set and a case of Cheshire Lager brewed by Mobberley Brewhouse were given away live on-air.
Andy Carter MP said: “This Cheshire day it has been a great pleasure to champion the great businesses, charities, and community groups that are based in Cheshire.
“To celebrate the day I welcomed Lymm Radio station to the Palace of Westminster for a special broadcast.
“Across the county we have outstanding producers making great cheeses, beer, and jams, some of which were given away during a competition live-on air. Congratulations to Anna Leaver who won a gift set from producers based across Cheshire.”
“This Cheshire Day make sure to champion our great county!”
Andy Carter worked in radio before becoming MP, and was previous Managing Director of GMG Radio based in Manchester.
Paul Smith, Lymm Radio’s station director said: “Today we broadcast Lymm Radio for the very first time live from Westminster to celebrate Cheshire Day.
“To meet and chat with the speaker of the house and to be joined by a number of MPs and the BBC’s Chris Mason has allowed us to bring the work of Parliament and the Palace of Westminster into people’s homes.
“The feedback we have had from listeners has been fantastic and we look forward to doing the same next year to celebrate our great county.”
A recording of the broadcast will be available on Lymm Radio’s website.
