After 33 Years At KRXQ Pat Martin Moves To Mornings At KSEG Sacramento

Audacy Classic Rock “96.9 The Eagle” KSEG Sacramento is revamping its on-air lineup following the retirement later this week of afternoon host Chris McCoy.

Pat Martin, who has spent the past 33 years in middays at “98 Rock” 98.5 KRXQ, will move across the hall to mornings at KSEG starting Tuesday, July 6. Martin joined then “93 Rock” as midday host in 1988 and has also served as Assistant Program Director and Music Director. Prior to coming to Sacramento, Martin spent eleven years at 101.5 KGB-FM San Diego and briefly worked at 94.7 KMET Los Angeles in 1986.

Justin Case, who has been hosting mornings since the retirement of Charlie Thomas earlier this year, will move to the 1-6pm afternoon slot that had been held by McCoy. Case has hosted nights and weekends at KSEG since 2017 after a long stint as part of “Boomer and the Boys” and “The Rise Guys” at KRXQ and then Sports 1140 KHTK.

Audacy announced a new weekday programming lineup for 96.9 The Eagle (KSEG-FM) in Sacramento. As part of the update, the station welcomes longtime market veteran Pat Martin to host mornings. Martin joins the station after serving as midday host for sister station 98 Rock (KRXQ-FM) for the last 33 years. He will be heard weekday mornings from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT, effective July 6.

“Pat’s market-leading tenure of almost 33 years is not only a testament to his talent, dedication and fans, but also has cemented him as a true Sacramento icon and we’re delighted to have him headline 96.9 The Eagle’s revamped weekday lineup,” said Stacey Kauffman, Regional Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy San Francisco and Sacramento. “Together, this lineup will collectively produce a full slate of premier programming – powered by classic rock’s top hits and driven by some of our industry’s top talent.”

“So why now? After 33 years on 98 Rock, I’m excited and ready for a new challenge,” said Martin. “It’s crazy to think it’s been that long, well over half my life. I’ve spent decades with this audience. I’ve been to their weddings, I’ve visited them in the hospital, I’ve been to funerals, I’ve hung out with them at concerts and drunk an untold number of beers with them. And now, as time marches on, it’s time for a new beginning. What an honor and privilege to join one of the nation’s great classic rock stations, and work alongside its legendary air staff. Many thanks to Joe Calgaro, Stacey Kaufman and everyone at Audacy up the chain for believing in me to take on this monumental challenge.”

Martin joined 98 Rock in 1988 and has served as midday host ever since, while adding assistant program director and music director roles along the way. Prior to joining the station, Martin held various positions for KGB-FM in San Diego from 1977 to 1988 and KMET in Los Angeles in 1986.

The station also announces that afternoon show host Chris McCoy will be retiring, effective July 2. McCoy had served in this role since 2017. Justin Case, who had been serving as morning show host since station veteran Charlie Thomas retired in January 2021, will transition to afternoons to succeed McCoy.
