WONK-FM Adds DC United Soccer

iHeartMedia Talk “104.7 WONK-FM” W284CQ/WWDC-HD2 Washington DC will be the new broadcast partner for DC United soccer.

The franchise had been without an over-the-air radio partner since its contract with “106.7 The Fan” WJFK-FM ended following the 2017 season. The station will carry all United games, while Spanish language broadcasts will be made available on the iHeartRadio app.

D.C. United have today announced a broadcast agreement with iHeartMedia’s Washington D.C’s 104.7 WONK-FM. As part of the agreement, D.C United club’s matches will simulcast live in English on 104.7 WONK-FM and on iHeartRadio.com and in Spanish on the iHeartRadio app during the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season.

Fans can listen to all D.C. United matches in English, led by the commentary team of legendary announcer Dave Johnson and former D.C. United defender Devon McTavish on 104.7 WONK-FM, the iHeartRadio app, and on the iHeartRadio website. Spanish-language commentary will be hosted by Moises Linares and former D.C. United forward Luciano Emilio and can be found on the iHeartRadio App.

“We’re committed to continuing to provide our fans with more access to follow our matches and through this broadcast agreement  we are introducing a new avenue to do just that,” said Danita Johnson, President of D.C. United. “Teaming up with iHeartMedia Washington D.C. is a perfect complement to our live television broadcasts in English and Spanish on NBC Sports Washington and TeleXitos and our www.dcunited.comstream at no cost for fans in the local market. Our full service of offerings meets fans wherever they are, whether that be at home or on the go.”

“We are thrilled to bring D.C. United soccer to fans locally on 104.7 WONK-FM and everywhere on the iHeartRadio app this season,” said Aaron Hyland, Region President for iHeartMedia Washington D.C. “We are looking forward to delivering the live action and excitement of D.C. United to fans in the DMV and beyond utilizing iHeartMedia’s unmatched reach in Broadcast, Podcast and Streaming Audio.”

Notably, Spanish-language simulcast will not be available for the club’s first match of the MLS season. Additional information on when that will become available will be announced in the near future.

The Black-and-Red open their 2022 MLS Regular Season on Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m. ET at Audi Field against Charlotte FC.
