Broadway Closing In Detroit

Bill ‘Broadway’ Bertschinger has announced his departure from Cumulus Media’s “New Country 93.1” WDRQ Detroit.

Bertschinger joined WDRQ in 2019 as APD/afternoon host. He would move to mornings when the station rebranded from “Nash-FM” to “New Country 93.1” in February 2020 and back to afternoons last fall. He also tracked afternoons for CHR “105.3 Hot-FM” WHTS-FM Grand Rapids and weekends on Country 95.5 WFMS Indianapolis. Prior to joining WDRQ, he hosted mornings at “Y108” WDSY Pittsburgh, “Country 92.5” WWYZ Hartford, and “99.9 Kiss Country” WKIS-FM Miami, nights and mornings at CHR 104.5 WSNX Grand Rapids, and nights at “B93” WBCT Grand Rapids and “Z107.7” KSLZ St. Louis.

In a statement on social media, Bertschinger wrote:

I’ve made the really difficult decision to walk away from my role with Cumulus Media Detroit.

In the three years I’ve been here I have learned so much from the amazing leadership.

I want to thank Lance Tidwell for bringing me here. He is, by far, the best boss I’ve ever had. Anyone who knows me hears about him. Constantly. He empowers his people to make decisions and doesn’t punish them if they get it wrong.

Mike Wheeler has always taken my calls and offered wisdom. He was instrumental in bringing me to Hartford and Detroit. The man is a radio wizard.

Steve Finateri is an incredible motivator and more importantly a great listener. I’ve never had a GM that I felt could text or call with literally anything. Work, drywall, parenting advice…anything.

In my 3 years at DRQ, we grew the cume to the highest it’s been in its 7 years as a country station. We also launched a local morning show that was an instant success as it shot up into the top 5 and remained there for 6 months. We received an ACM nomination and also won 2 MAB awards.

I wish David Corey the best and hope the station has tons of success!
