Townsquare Media flipped “Classic Rock 106.9” KLUB Bloomington/Victoria TX to Tejano as “KLUB Tejano” at noon today.
The new brand will feature core artists including Demmi Garcia, JR Gomez, Monica Saldivar, and La Dezz. Country 107.9 KIXS morning host JP will host middays on KLUB. Bo Corona joins the company as afternoon host. Corona has previously worked at KPRR El Paso, KTFM and KXTN San Antonio, and KXTJ and KQQK-FM in Houston.
Townsquare Media Victoria, the home of great stations like KIXS 108, 98.7 JACK FM and Q92, launched a brand-new station to the market, KLUB Tejano 106.9. The station debuted at 12PM, broadcasting to towns that have never had Tejano music on the radio dial like Goliad, Edna, Port Lavaca and Yorktown, among many others.
Townsquare Victoria Market President Mason Benitez made the move after surveying the market and finding out what holes needed to be filled. “Tejano is huge in this area,” Benitez says. “The concerts are always sold out and any festival featuring Tejano does really well. We wanted to give our audience what they were previously missing on the radio.”
As for programming, KLUB Tejano will feature Tejano Radio legend Bo Corona in the afternoons, 3PM-7PM. Corona has nearly 30 years of radio industry experience in Texas, having worked as an on-air host for KPRR-FM in El Paso, KTFM-FM in San Antonio, and KXTJ-FM and KQQK-FM in Houston. Corona also helped launch KXTN-FM (now KVBH-FM) in San Antonio where he anchored the morning show. The middays, 10AM-3PM, will feature Victoria’s own JP who has been in the local Tejano scene for years and currently hosts the KIXS 108 morning show with Ingra Lee.
Jim Kovacik, Director of Content for Townsquare Victoria, praised his on-air team. “I’ve worked with Bo before and he has so much passion for radio and Tejano I think people with be blown away,” he says. “JP has been a big part of this switch. He’s going to be the face of Tejano here in Victoria. We are also hoping to be adding even more Tejano superstars soon!”
The station will celebrate the launch with their new listeners by hosting a Tejano concert with Grammy-nominated group Los Chamacos at their own Mac Haik performance center on January 27.
