Family Stations will return to FM in New York as it purchases Spanish AC “Que Buena 92.7” WQBU-FM Garden City from Univision for $9 million.
Family Stations sold the tower land of 1560 WFME New York in November 2020 for $51 million and recently relaunched the AM with lower power from its owned site in New Jersey. The organization has bounced around the dial after selling 94.7 Newark NJ to Cumulus for $40 million and 106.3 Mount Kisco NY in October 2012. It would then purchase 1560 in November 2014 for $12.95 million.
Univision purchased 92.7 for $60 million at the peak of station values in 2004. The station covers most of New York City proper from just near the Queens/Nassau County border with 2kW/159m, but does not put much of a signal into New Jersey, Staten Island, or the northern suburbs of the market, areas where 1560 WFME and 106.3 WFME-FM do cover.
