Jenny Matthews Bids Adieu To KBEQ

Jenny Matthews Q104 KBEQ Kansas CityJenny Matthews has departed mornings at Steel City Media Country “Q104” KBEQ Kansas City.

Matthews has spent over two decades in Kansas City first spending fifteen years at CHR “Mix 93.3” KMXV before moving to mornings at sister KBEQ in October 2019. During that tenure she spent time as a weekend host, News Director and midday host at KMXV. At KBEQ she had been teamed with Mike Kellar until 2023, Todd Nixon through the end of 2024, and solo for the past five weeks.

In a lengthy social media post regarding her decision to leave the station, Matthews said, “I was welcomed into Mix 93.3 and stayed there for about 16 years. The morning show job of my dreams happened. I’d never been so happy. It was taken away. I picked up the pieces and created a new show with a new cohost. At the end of 2024 my heart was so full. I felt like it all made sense again. And then, it was taken away… back to square one.” She continued, “I was given the chance to do ‘The Jenny Matthews Show’. Just me. I tried. But, it just didn’t feel right. Maybe because I’ve already done that? Or maybe because a lot of life has happened over the past few weeks of this new year. My dad is sick and to be honest, that’s where my mind is these days. He’s got this. A long road ahead. But, I believe with everything in me he’ll kick this thing. My babies aren’t babies anymore. Middle school. High school for my girl next year. It’s going so fast and it’s just so damn bittersweet. I don’t wanna miss mornings with them. I want to be able to go to Maryland to spend time with my dad and the rest of my family. I am a true crime junkie! Maybe I’ll start a podcast? I’ve wanted to write a book for years. I never had the time. Maybe I’ll start it tonight.”

KBEQ has yet to share its plans for mornings.
