GSB Media launched Classic Hits “96.9 The Cape” WCCZ Nassawadox/Cape Charles VA on Saturday, February 1 at 12pm.
The company purchased the former Regional Mexican “Radio Amigo” WFAJ last July for $100,000 with $54,342 going to pay tower lease debt owed by the seller. The new format is focusing on pop and rock hits from the late 60s through the early 90s with core artists included as featuring The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Madonna and Prince.
Operations Manager/Program Director Doc Holloway said, “We’ve been working very hard to bring great content to Cape Charles and the surrounding areas. Locals and people visiting can now have something fun to listen to, and they can find out what is happening around town, too. Our programming is simple: Music, Community and Weather.”
The remainder of the lineup will feature Greg Fentress in mornings as he moves over from sister Country “Wow Country” 101.1 WICO-FM Snow Hill/Ocean City MD and 99.3 WOWZ Accomac VA. “Wow Country” midday host Annie Oakley will also host afternoons on WCCZ.
GSB Media co-owner Betsy Byrd Fitch siad, “I grew up on the Shore, and, for as long as I can remember, radio has been an important part of the Shore’s community life, entertaining and keeping folks informed. We are happy that 96.9 The Cape will be carrying on that tradition.”
