Bauer Media Audio has officially welcomed News mentees for 2025 at The Lantern

Successful journalism students from across the UK, selected for the Bauer Media Audio News Mentoring Programme, have visited Bauer’s new HQ at The Lantern.

They were given a studio tour before hearing from members of the senior news team including Head of News England & Wales Jim Foulger, Deputy Head of News Michelle Livesey, Political Editor Georgie Prodromou and former news mentee, now Multimedia News & Sport Reporter for the central region, Amelia Salmons.

Head of the mentoring programme Louise Easton hosted the day, which included discussions on previous news coverage, breaking news scenarios, training and employment opportunities: “It was wonderful to meet our news mentees in London to kick start what I hope will be a great year of learning and development for these impressive students. They are all clearly passionate and dedicated about their future careers in journalism and I’m really looking forward to working with them alongside their mentors.”

“All 16 mentees have now been matched with mentors aligned with their interests, who will provide insight and access to reporters and resources from across the group.”

Amelia Salmons who was a mentee in 2024 before achieving a permanent news role within Bauer Media Audio later in the year, said: “I loved being a Mentee. Bauer is the fastest paced newsroom I have ever worked in.

“You cover so much news! I’ve met royals, covered terrible crime that has rocked local communities and even reported from a concert. You also get to work alongside some of the best reporters and newsreaders in the business. I wish I could go back and do the mentorship again, just so I could pick some of the brilliant brains I got to work with as a Mentee.”

Head of News & Sport (England) for Bauer Media Audio UK, Jim Foulger said: “The mentoring programme is a huge success story, offering a clear route from university to employment within the broadcast industry.

“Being chosen to be part of our next cohort is truly one of the fastest ways to move from studies to the studio.”
