Nearly a year to the day it flipped from Country to CHR “Hot 93.7“, Sun Broadcasting returned 93.7 WHEL Sanibel/Fort Myers FL back to Country using its original “Trump Country 93.7” identity at noon today.
Once again positioning as “Make Country Great Again” with imaging featuring a Trump impersonator, the move returns WHEL to a three way Country battle against Renda’s “101.9 Gator Country” WWGR and iHeartMedia’s “Cat Country 107.1” WCKT.
The station originally flipped to Country in September 2020. It would rebrand as “Hell Yeah 93.7” in December 2020. After iHeartMedia flipped “Y100” WZJZ to Bilingual AC last January, the station would stunt with all-Taylor Swift and then become CHR “Hot 93.7” on January 22, 2024. The “Hell Yeah” brand would move to translator 94.1 W231DC until July 1.
In its final full monthly, “Hot 93.7” managed just a 1.3 share in the December Nielsen Audio ratings, which was below the 1.7 it had in the Country format’s final full monthly a year prior. WWGR is currently third in the market with a 4.7 share and WCKT eleventh with a 2.6 share. Sun and related company Fort Myers Broadcasting Company hold the other five of the top six stations in the market.
