KFRO To Expand To Tyler With KVUT Purchase

1370 94.1 KFRO Longview 99.7 KFRO-FM Scottie RiceScottie Rice’s RCA Broadcasting has acquired Silent 99.7 KVUT Cuney TX from University of Texas at Tyler for $100,000.

UT Tyler ceased operations of KVUT in May after attempting to launch a Public News/Talk brand on the station. It had acquired the signal in May 2020 and launched its programming in September 2020.

RCA Broadcasting owns Classic Hits 1370 KFRO/94.1 K231DK Longview, which covers the eastern side of the Tyler/Longview market. At closing the station will revert to a commercial license and become KFRO-FM simulcasting the AM. Rice tells RadioInsight, “It’s great that ahead of KFRO’s upcoming 90th anniversary, we can finally provide Tyler and Jacksonville with the same great programming Longview has come to expect from us.”
