September 2021 (8/19 – 9/15) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 2: Sports Hub Shatters Station Records

Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.

Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ claims the top spot in Washington DC as it moves 8.9 to 8.8. Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP falls 9.2 to 8.5. Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU rises 6.6 to 7.4. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR falls to fourth 8.0 to 6.7. iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH rises 5.5 to 6.1.

Audacy Classic Hits “94.7 The Drive” WIAD rises 3.9 to 4.7 for what Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes is its highest share since Summer 1984 as AC WLTT. Audacy’s 95.5 WPGC (2.7 – 2.9 – 3.6) and Radio One’s 93.9 WKYS (2.4 to 3.0) continue the trend of rising Hip Hop stations this month. Classical 90.9 WETA-FM trends up 3.9 – 4.7 -5.0.

Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM Boston surges up 5.8 to 7.4. Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that not only is this WBZ-FM’s first time atop the Boston market, but it is also the largest share ever for the 98.5 frequency. Beasley Classic Hits 105.7 WROR falls to second 7.5 to 7.2. iHeartMedia News/Talk 1030 WBZ places third up 6.2 to 6.6. iHeartMedia CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM falls 6.8 to 5.8 to place in a fourth place tie with Beasley Country 102.5 WKLB (6.0 to 5.8).

Audacy Sports 93.7 WEEI-FM also trends up 2.9 – 3.4 – 3.9. iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Jam’n 94.5” WJMN jumps up 2.4 to 3.1.

Cox Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT reclaims the Miami market lead jumping up 7.7 to 8.7, while sister Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ falls 8.6 to 7.6. Audacy AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF holds in third down 6.8 to 6.4. SBS Spanish Oldies “Z92.3” WCMQ is up 5.2 to 5.8. Univision Spanish AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR is fifth up 5.1 to 5.4.

In its final monthly as a CHR, Cox CHR “Hits 97.3” WFLC trends up 1.9 – 2.6 – 3.1. iHeartMedia’s competing CHR “Y100” WHYI dips 3.8 to 3.7, while Audacy’s “Power 96” WPOW-FM is up 2.0 to 2.3. Cox Hip Hop “99 Jamz” WEDR rises 2.7 to 3.4.

The top three in Seattle are all trending downwards. Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM slips 7.8 – 7.3 – 7.1. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK trends down 6.8 – 5.8 – 5.4, while Sinclair News 1000 KOMO/97.7 KOMO-FM slips 6.3 – 5.8 – 5.4. Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM is up 4.2 – 4.7 – 5.4. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “95.7 The Jet” KJR-FM dips 5.2 to 5.1.

Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW falls 6.4 to 5.0, while co-owned Soft AC “94.1 The Sound” KSWD surges up 3.5 – 3.9 – 4.6. Hubbard CHR “Movin 92.5” KQMV is down 3.9 to 3.6, while iHeartMedia’s “Hits 106.1” KBKS falls 4.0 to 3.0. Sinclair Hot AC “Star 101.5” KPLZ inches up 2.0 – 2.4 – 2.6.

iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ expands its Phoenix lead up 6.7 to 7.3, while co-owned Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT trends up 4.4 – 5.0 – 6.1. Hubbard Rock “98 Rock” KUPD jumps up 4.5 to 5.5. iHeartMedia Country 102.5 KNIX rises 4.5 to 4.9, while Conservative Talk 550 KFYI dips 5.0 to 4.5.

Audacy Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL-FM trends down 5.4 – 4.9 – 4.5. Hubbard News/Talk 92.3 KTAR-FM trends up 2.9 – 3.4 – 3.7.

Audacy Classic Hits takes sole possession of the Detroit market lead with a 7.2 to 7.4 gain, while Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX holds at a 7.2. iHeartMedia Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD rises 6.2 to 6.7. Audacy’s duo of News 950 WWJ (5.7 to 5.5) and Sports “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM (5.4 to 5.5) tie for fourth.

On the downswing are Beasley Rock 101.1 WRIF (5.8 – 4.9 – 4.5) and iHeartMedia AC 100.3 WNIC (5.2 – 4.7 – 4.4).

iHeartMedia Classic Hits “Kool 108” KQQL moves up 7.9 to 8.7 to take sole possession of the Minneapolis/St. Paul market lead. Hubbard Hot AC “KS95” KSTP-FM dips 7.9 to 7.6. Public News/Talk 91.1 KNOW-FM rises 7.2 to 7.5. Northwestern Media Christian AC 98.5 KTIS-FM falls 7.2 to 6.2. iHeartMedia Country “K102” KEEY holds at a 6.0.

Cumulus Rock “93X” KXXR jumps up 4.2 – 4.7 – 5.2.

LM San Diego Rhythmic AC “Magic 92.5” XHRM San Diego trends up 5.1 – 6.1 – 6.8 for what Huff notes is its highest share since May 2009. Audacy Classic Hits “98.1 Sunny-FM” KXSN holds steady in second at a 5.7 share. Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS is up 4.6 to 5.2. iHeartMedia’s “Rock 105.3” KIOZ (3.3 – 4.3 – 4.7) surges up to a fourth place tie with News/Talk 600 KOGO (4.2 to 4.7).

On the downswing in San Diego, iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 93.3” KHTS-FM (5.2 to 3.9), Audacy AC 96.5 KYXY (4.3 – 3.5 – 3.3), and LM San Diego CHR “Z90.3” XHTZ (4.0 – 3.6 – 3.2). iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 760 KGB rises 1.4 to 2.1.

Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy FM” 91.5 WCIE extends its newfound lead in Tampa rising 7.8 to 8.6. Cox Soft AC 105.5 WDUV holds at a 7.5 share. Beasley Classic Hits “Q105” WRBQ rises 5.3 to 5.7. Cox AC “Magic 94.9” WWRM holds at a 5.0 share. Cox Classic Rock “107.3 The Eagle” WXGL falls to fifth down 5.8 to 4.8.

Cox Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” rises 3.7 to 4.4. iHeartMedia Country “US 103.5” WFUS is up 3.3 – 3.5 – 4.1. Moving downward are iHeartMedia AC “Mix 100.7” WMTX (5.0 to 3.6) and Rock “98 Rock” WXTB (4.5 to 3.2).

Bonneville Country 98.5 KYGO reclaims the Denver lead rising 6.4 to 7.1, while sister AC 101.1 KOSI drops 6.5 to 5.9. Public News/Talk 90.1 KCFR rises 4.5 to 5.3. Audacy Hot AC “Alice 105.9” KALC rises 4.4 to 5.1. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “103.5 The Fox” KRFX falls down 6.1 to 4.9.

Following its relaunch as “Hits 95.7“, iHeartMedia’s KPTT Denver trends up 2.3 – 2.7 – 3.0. Audacy Rhythmic CHR “KS 107.5” KQKS trends in the opposite direction 2.7 – 2.4 – 1.9. Entravision Spanish AC “Suavecita 92.1” KJMN surges up 2.2 – 3.0 – 3.6. iHeartMedia Country “106.7 The Bull” KWBL is up 2.5 – 3.2 – 3.3, while Bonnesville Sports “104.3 The Fan” KKFN rises 2.1 – 2.5 – 3.0.

Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM holds its Baltimore lead up 8.1 to 8.6. Audacy AC “Today’s 101.9” WLIF rises to second up 6.2 to 6.9. iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC falls 6.3 to 5.6. Hearst Rock “98 Rock” WIYY dips 5.4 to 5.2. iHeartMedia Variety Hits “102.7 Jack-FM” WQSR dips 4.8 to 4.7.

Hubbard Rock 94.7 KSHE St. Louis holds its usual spot atop the market down 11.1 to 11.0. Hubbard Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH holds in second up 7.0 to 7.1. Thanks to the demise of its direct format competitor, Audacy Adult R&B “96.3 The Lou” WFUN-FM jumps up 5.8 to 6.8 to tie Gateway Creative Broadcasting Christian AC “99.1 Joy-FM” KLJY (7.1 – 6.8). Hubbard Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT rises 6.2 to 6.5.

Following its flip from Adult R&BMajic 104.9” KMJM-FM to Conservative Talk “104.9 The Patriot“, KTLK-FM falls 2.1 to 0.5. iHeart Hip Hop “100.3 The Beat” KATZ-FM rises 2.0 to 2.4.

Audacy AC 102.5 KEZK slides 7.4 to 6.1. Both Country stations move in opposite directions with Hubbard’s 92.3 WIL trending 4.0 – 4.3 – 4.7 and iHeartMedia’s “93.7 The Bull” KSD-FM down 5.2 – 4.3 – 3.8.
