FCC Seal 2020 Federal Communications CommissionThe FCC released its Sixth Report on Ownership of Broadcast Stations presenting data on ownership interests in commercial and noncommercial broadcast stations as of October 1, 2021 by gender, race, and ethnicity utilizing data collected from FCC Forms 323 and 323-E.

The FCC has released its annual list of total station amounts as of December 31, 2022.

  • 4484 AM Stations (down 25 from 4059 on 12/31/2021)
  • 6686 Commercial FM Stations (up 10 from 6676)
  • 4207 Educational FM Stations (up 3 from 4204)
  • 8950 FM Translators & Boosters (up 84 from 8866)
  • 2015 Low Power FMs (down 54 from 2069)
  • 33,517 Total Broadcast Stations (up 50 from 33,467)

Deletions

After shutting down Christian Preaching 1440 WKPR Kalamazoo MI in August 2022, Kalamazoo Broadcasting Company has surrendered the station’s license. WKPR’s former translator 105.1 W286AU Kalamazoo began rebroadcasting Classic Country “Jethro-FM” 980 WAKV Otsego in July.

Silent Notifications

  • Townsquare Media ceased programming on 940 WINE Brookfield CT, 1360 WYOS Binghamton NY, and 1490 WTVL Waterville ME at the end of 2022 due to economic conditions
  • KCBX Inc.’s 89.5 KSBX Santa Barbara CA (increasing ducting interference)
  • Radio World Inc.’s 1400 WZHR Zephyrhills FL (transmitter problems)
  • KM Radio of Independence’s 1220 KQMG and 95.3 KQMG-FM Independence IA (equipment problems)
  • KUTE Inc.’s 90.1 KDNM Reserve NM (suspended operation)
  • Birach Broadcasting’s 1340 KJMU Sand Springs/Tulsa OK (transmitter failure)
  • Stephens Media Group’s 880 KCMX Phoenix/Medford OR (catastrophic transmitter failure)
  • Campbell Craft Company’s 94.7 KTXO Goldsmith TX (closing of sale/planned equipment repairs)
