Stockport DAB multiplex bidder announces plans

Stockport Digital Radio has announced its plans to apply for the small-scale DAB multiplex in Stockport.

The company is a collaboration made up of Stockport’s Strawberry Radio and the Community Radio Alliance of All FM, Wythenshawe FM, Stockport’s Pie Radio and Canalside Radio.

Colin Owen, board member of Wythenshawe FM, says: “We have been broadcasting on FM for 21 years this month and things have really changed since we started, Digital Radio is clearly the future, especially as most of the cars on the road have now made the switch. We are really excited to be working with our community radio colleagues on this project’.

Cllr David Meller, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council added: “This is great news for Stockport and provides an opportunity for smaller, community stations to showcase their output on a wider scale. It sits perfectly alongside the council’s vision for the future and complements the huge investment we are making across the district.”

Interested stations can see digitalradiostockport.co.uk and register their interest.
