97.5 Kool-FM Tri-Cities Ceases Operation

Townsquare Media continues to shut down underperforming stations as its Tri Cities Divestiture Trust has ceased operations on Classic Hits “97.5 Kool-FM” KOLW Basin City/Kennewick WA.

The Allen Blum led trust told the FCC, “Due to economic conditions in the market, the licensee was forced to take the station off the air temporarily. The licensee respectfully requests special temporary authority for the station to remain silent. The licensee will promptly notify the Commission when it is able to resume
station operations.”

KOLW was transferred into the divestiture trust following the closing of Townsquare Media acquisition of Cherry Creek Media in June 2022. At that time KOLW’s CHR “Kiss-FM” brand moved to 105.3 KONA-FM Kennewick and the facility brought back the Classic Hits format and “Kool-FM” brand that it previously held from 2004 to 2013.

The flip leaves Stephens Media Group’s “Big 95.7” KKSR Walla Walla as the only Classic Hits station in the market.
