New marketing campaign launched for Classic FM

Classic FM has a new marketing campaign based on promoting music that people recognise but might not know the name of.

The campaign, “You May Not Know The Name, But You Will Know The Music,” has been produced in-house at Global and it showcases how ingrained classical music is in popular culture.
From marking the start of a UEFA Champions League football match (inspired by Handel’s anthem, Zadok the Priest), to a dramatic boardroom firing on The Apprentice (Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights), classical music is everywhere in everyday life.
So much is often instantly familiar, soundtracking numerous iconic TV and movie moments, huge sporting events, and many famous advertising campaigns too.
The TV ad will be shown across ITV’s primetime slate and during England’s first Six Nations rugby game. It will also be on the big screen at all Odeon cinemas in the UK.
In addition, the TV ad will be amplified with a nationwide outdoor campaign on Global’s large-format roadside screens and throughout the London Underground.
Global’s Managing Director, Marketing, Simon Barnabas said: “This striking and thought-provoking new audio-visual campaign is a reflection of Classic FM’s commitment to making the genre even more accessible and relatable to new mainstream audiences. The emphasis is on reminding these audiences how familiar and emotive classical music is, touching all walks of life, and how it has the power to take listeners back to highly memorable moments. Alongside the fun, eye-catching companion outdoor creative, we have no doubt it will draw positive attention to the brand in 2025 and beyond.”
Classic FM’s Managing Editor, Phil Noyce added: “It is fantastic to see the music we play every day on Classic FM brought to life in such a captivating and inviting way by this campaign. We proudly play the most popular and recognisable classical music – the best tunes from the past 500 years – and it is very exciting to be inviting more people to enjoy the magic of this iconic music and the feelings and memories it can evoke. Classic FM is a radio station that welcomes everyone regardless of level of classical music knowledge and, for anyone still wondering if this applies to them, the statement at the end says it all – you may not know the name, but you will know the music.”

“This is mind blowing” – Scott Mills starts new breakfast show on BBC Radio 2

Scott Mills has started his new breakfast show on BBC Radio 2, officially taking over from Zoe Ball.
In an opening statement at 6.30am on Monday 27th January, Scott Mills played his new sung jingle and said he’s still finding it quite hard to process that it’s happening.
“When I think about the previous occupiers of this show it becomes mind blowing to me, for a kid who wanted to be on the radio but wasn’t sure he had the self confidence to be able to actually do it.”
He’ll be featuring the Birthday Game and the Easiest Quiz On The Radio, and is joined by Tina Daheley on news and Ellie Brennan on travel.
He went on to add that he wants the listeners to be the star of the show, and talked about his career: “I’ve been at the BBC on the radio for 25 years. A lot of you may well have grown up listening to me, I’m sure a lot of you will not have much idea about me at all. Either way, if you can make me part of your morning routine it would mean so much.
“I’m going to give it everything I’ve got – this might be the best day of my life (apart from getting married).”
Scott’s first song was the latest version of Rock DJ by Robbie Williams.

Former Eastenders star to guest present on Suffolk Sound

Actor Michael Greco is to guest present the morning show for online station Suffolk Sound.

This follows the former Eastenders actor’s recent appearance in the Ipswich Regent Theatre pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, when he was a guest on the station with Chloe Rivers.
Michael spoke about the great time he’d had in Suffolk during the Christmas season, so the station asked him if he’d cover for Chloe while she was on leave.
Michael said: “I had such a great time that debuting my radio career at last year’s Christmas hometown was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.”
Suffolk Sound Co-Founder Rob Dunger said: “Michael has had a great career in film, theatre and TV and now he’ll be cutting his teeth on air with us!
“It’s a great addition to our line-up and we look forward to more shows from Michael throughout the year!”
Michael can be heard on Suffolk Sound on 4th and 11th February from 10am.
