Funding available for training and development activities to support Ireland’s media sector

Coimisiún na Méan has launched a funding round under its Sectoral Learning and Development Programme.

Up to €550,000 in total is being made available to support industry networks and representative organisations deliver a range of training and development activities for the forthcoming year, 2025.
Funding can be sought by organisations that work in the media sector and undertake training and development initiatives that support the broadcasting and audiovisual industries and align with An Coimisiún’s aim to ensure a thriving, diverse, creative and safe media landscape.
Levels of funding available to successful applicants will vary depending on the nature of the activities proposed, and their relevance to An Coimisiún’s work.
Commenting, Coimisiún na Meán’s Media Development Commissioner Rónán Ó Domhnaill said: “An Coimisiún is delighted to launch this funding round under our Sector Learning and Development Programme. Ongoing training and skills development is critical to ensuring the sustainability of the media sector and enhancing its growth, diversity and creativity.
“We recognise the valuable role organisations and representative bodies in the industry play in providing training and learning opportunities to those in the sector. Supporting such quality projects is a key part of our work and we look forward to seeing a wide range of proposals aiming to enrich our media landscape and support its continued development.”
Previous recipients of funding under the Sectoral Learning and Development Programme include: Learning Waves’ Journalism Graduate Programme, Women in Film and Television, CRAOL- which represents community radio, the Writers Guild of Ireland, and Oireachtas na Gaeilge.

Tuning In North returns with DCMS Secretary of State Lisa Nandy confirmed as first speaker

Radiocentre is returning to Manchester for Tuning In North 2025 with Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP already lined up.

Lisa Nandy was appointed Secretary of State for DCMS in July 2024 and has been MP for Wigan since 2010.
Tuning In North is part of Radiocentre’s nationwide event series to showcase the latest developments in radio and audio advertising and brands, agencies and Radiocentre member stations from across the North of England can register now to secure a free place.
Beginning with a networking breakfast, the morning will be filled with thought-provoking speakers, exciting new research, inspiring case studies, best practice creative, and more.
A full agenda for the event, which is happening on 13th March 2025 and also available to watch online, will be released in the coming months.
Chief Executive of Radiocentre Matt Payton said: “We’re honoured that the Secretary of State for DCMS will be speaking at Tuning In North 2025 which is set to be our biggest and most ambitious conference outside London to date.

Former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt joins Hits Radio for regular show

Kimberly Wyatt is joining Hits Radio to host The Hits Radio Throwback each Sunday at 7pm.
The former Pussycat Doll joined Fleur East on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show this morning to share the news.
She said: “The cat is finally out of the bag! It’s so awesome to be part of the family… I’m so excited it’s like a new little adventure.
“I’ve been DJing for quite some time but to be able to spend some time with everybody on a Sunday and play some of my favourite tunes – I’m really looking forward to it.
Kimberly also teased what people can expect from the show: ‘There’ll be a little bit of PCD of course, but lots of Noughties, lots of hits – keep it fun for a Sunday!
“I’ll be bringing music, fun, stories… Music takes you back to moments and memories, so to live in that again and share some of that will be fun.”

Pure West Radio joins DAB multiplexes in North Pembrokeshire and South Pembrokeshire

Pure West Radio has launched on both the North Pembrokeshire and South Pembrokeshire DAB digital radio multiplexes.

This milestone for the station takes it from an online service to one that can be heard across its coverage area on terrestrial radio.
“Launching on DAB marks an important chapter in Pure West Radio’s journey,” says Toby Ellis, Station Manager.
“Our goal has always been to keep Pembrokeshire connected and bring our communities closer together. Expanding to DAB allows us to reach new listeners across the county and provide them with the local stories, news, and music they love.”
The station will be celebrating the launch day today with a special lineup of programs, featuring live interviews, local music, and exclusive content.
