A brand-new BBC Music Introducing show, showcasing unsigned and undiscovered artists from across the UK, is being added to the BBC Radio 1Xtra schedule.
The show will be hosted by new presenter Theo Johnson and will broadcast from The Mailbox in Birmingham every Sunday 10pm-12am, starting 11 September.
Birmingham-born Theo is a content creator, actor, musician and now broadcaster. His show will be 1Xtra’s first dedicated BBC Introducing show and the first permanent show in its schedule to be broadcast outside of London.
Theo says: “It feels great to be a part of 1Xtra history. I’m grateful to Faron for entrusting me to be the first 1Xtra presenter to have an Introducing show on the network and for it to be based in my hometown of Birmingham makes it extra special!”.
Faron McKenzie, Head of Station, BBC 1Xtra says: “1Xtra has a rich history of spotting the freshest new talent on the scene and providing a platform for them to be discovered by a national audience, and so I’m really excited to be launching a new show dedicated to that. We’re also committed to increasing investment and supporting broadcasting talent across the UK so to have Birmingham’s own Theo presenting this from Brum is fantastic”.
In other schedule changes, 1Xtra’s RnB show with DJ Ace will move to Saturday 11pm-1am.
