Steel City Media flipped the former AC “KC 102.1” KCKC to Variety Hits “102.1 Bob-FM” at 9am today.
As first indicated in our 11/15 Domain Insight, the flip replicates the brand utilized by Steel City’s currently market-leading WRRK Pittsburgh. The new Bob is positioning as “80s, 90s and Whatever” and launched with Milli Vanilli “Girl You Know Its True”, John Mellencamp “Crumblin’ Down”, and Prince “Little Red Corvette”.
The AC format on KCKC was 15th in the Kansas City market with a 3.0 share in the November 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings. The new format will compete with Cumulus’s Classic Hits 94.9 KCMO-FM and Classic Rock “101 The Fox” KCFX, which normally hold the top two spots in the market by a large lead as well Variety Hits “102.5 Jack-FM” K273BZ/KCMO-HD2 which had a 0.9 share.
